Recently picked up a Rem Mountain SS in 30-06 for a sweet deal. I've searched/looked at all the threads regarding this model, but most are geared to the Western altitudes where ounces matter and are either 7-08/308 based.

This was just to be a lighter overall option in my stable so weight isn't too critical. A poor mans Kimber/Weatherby etc build if you would. Looking for input on building a semi-light rig (7-8lbs) optically and any other areas I should seriously consider. Max range would be 3-400yrds but not regularily encountered. Thinking either 168gr TTSX or 180gr Nos Pars for pills.

* Edited* This is primarily a backup Moose rig. Primary being a T3 .300 WSM

Cheers

Set of talley lightweights and a vx3 3.5-10x40. I would shoot 150 or 165gr accubonds, and if you wanted to drop any weight, replace the stock with a wildcat. If not, shoot it and be happy.

Very sound advice.

You may have seen my thread I posted a 7mm08 where I swapped for a Wildcat. The Wildcat saved me 14 oz over the B&C that comes stock. May be worth it or it may not.

My rifle also shot quite a bit better after bedding and floating the barrel.

I have a VX3 in 3.5-10X40 on my Mountain LSS, running 180gr scirocco's for deer, works well. Likely dial it back to 165gr this year though.

Thanks for the suggestions. LW Low Talleys are on the way along with a Trigger Tech trigger. Leupold VX 3/i is currently atop the leaderboard for optics, but I'm also looking into Vortex, Zeiss etc..
