Rem VTR Real Reviews Anyone

Ya I imagin thats all it is, but it would be interesting to hear how they hold POI under some stressed conditions...

I hear good I head Bad, I do not care for the visual appearance myself but that is not relevante, in this case.

Why would it be any different than any other remington barrel. Some will walk when they heat up and others won't. Some will shoot gnats @ 100yds and some will never come close to that. Factory barrels are hit and miss, you take your chances.

does anyone actually sit down and shoot 250 rounds in a row?

Hells yeah! not from the same gun though, 6 gun rotation, 5 shot group takes a couple minutes, rotate out that gun for another one etc. You can comfortably shoot 50 centerfire rounds an hour with lots of time and never overheat those guns..

i would only consider one in .308 for all reports from the ones I have sold are they shoot well.
Was so much hype on this barrel that we had a waiting list for them to arrive in .223. When we got 6 in last january (08) 3 of them would not chamber a .223 round and were sent back. quality control????

My VTR in 308 shoots 0.28 MOA 100 m. Nosler 168 gr.J4 comp. IMR 4895 42.5 gr. Nosler custom brass. This is the best group so far

:D
In spite of the title of the OP a lot of general comments & "I like this rifle" posts & only one partial review with an unmodified VTR that talked about group sizes.

Nothing said about biggest group or average group & only one hand load & no factory ammo reported.

Maybe somebody on the board will actually report some extensive detailed field tests with a VTR in .308 Win............................didn't see that here.

Rem VTR Real Reviews Anyone ?????

I have 1 in 308 and I did 20 in 1/2 hour to see if the triangle barrel would handel it. First shot was a flyer and all the rest shot a inch & a 1/2 group @ 100 meter's. I used 2 detachable mags. Yes I know that this rifle dosn't come stock with it but I moded it to accept the Remington detachable magazine trigger plate and mag. I have this set-up on EE cuz I am putting this rig on a Knoxx Axiom alumin stock, custom trigger job & maybe a VBull magazine kit for it. I have well over 500 rounds of surplus South African (A.k.A. $h!t Ammo), Isreali and Portuguese. The best so far was the Portuguese, @ 200 it could hit a 2" chunk of metal all the time & I suck when it comes to shooting steady. I think it has something to do with timmy's coffee.

A modified gun.

Sorry...........anything that's not < 1 MOA is NOT a precision rifle...........but the gun was modified so who knows what a stock VTR will do?

does anyone actually sit down and shoot 250 rounds in a row? (with a fraken Remington VTR ???????)

RIGHT !!!

well Just bought mine 2 weeks ago and put a bushnell elite 3200 5x15 scope on it and put about 250 round through it and shoots federal vital shocks 168 grain gameking bullet in less than 3\4 inch at 100 yards and the worst group were with cheap winchester grey box at about 1 and 3/4 inch average but gold medal match were averaging 1 inch or less in 10 to 25 kmh side wind gusts but so far I'm really satisfied with it and would recomend it to anyone who wants to be different with a triangular barrel and have fun listening at the comments good or bad but I love mine

Chuky apparently your settings do not allow you to receive PMs so I can’t respond to you. This was your last post, so I thought I would give it a shot

So...I've had my .223 VTR for a couple of years now, and love it.

Zero issues at all... Now...to be fair, I've never put 200-300 rounds through it in a sitting...maybe 50->75, and I think the barrel is heavy enough that there wasn't much movement due to a heated barrel. As I understand it, the barrel was a bit of an experiment to see if they could reduce manufacturing costs but not performing a traditional rounding.

The one negative I would say...which isn't a game changer or anything is the built in muzzle brake. It makes a nice whoomp when it shoots, but because the brake is integrated...there's no option to run anything else. Again...what it has works just fine for me....it'd just be nice to have the option.

No issues with chambering at all.

Regarding the barrel...I've shot it in the snow, the rain, and hot sunny days with no issues. Every range I've gone to...I've had one or two people come up and ask about the barrel...it's certainly a conversation starter.

I think people that replace the trigger are probably right on the money...I don't really love it, and it's a little heavy and not all that adjustable. It's not a priority for me, but if I have onto it for another few years I'll likely drop the money and throw a Triggertech in there.

My gun loved the Atlanta Arms Premium .223 in 55gr. Lot's of oOmpf, and it shoots nice tight 0.5 to 0.75 MOA at 100 (I've heard both better and worse, but I will note that my rifle loves some ammo, and HATES others (+1.5 to +1.75 MOA at times). I have so far been able to retain that accuracy with the Atlanta Arms ammo out to 200yds just fine (not a lot of 200+ yd ranges down my way I'm afraid).

I have no real complaints about the rifle itself. I get more grief from people about buying a Remington instead of a Tikka *chuckle*.

The gun is forgiving, and shoots straight...which is key :)

I have had two of these in .308 over the years and have shot as many as 100 rounds in a range session over 2 hours or so. I like them they shoot straight and are different to look at. I found the stocks flimsy so I tried to stiffen up the first one which didn't work as well as I had hoped so I replaced the stock on the one I still have to an Archangel stock and love it. The groups have tightened up and it feels great to shoulder now.
