Ok now with all the B.S aside who had pounded the piss out one of these barrels, and what did you find.. 200-300 in a sitting did it wonder did teh POI change durring cooling, Does anyone have 5000 plus rounds through one yet.. and if so how is it holding up...

BTW, I did do a search other than a group here or there, there is no real comments on alot of rounds down range even on the net

I would like to know what this barrel will do down range in the heat, and cold weather.

Can't help with with a review but I think all the negative stuff is BS due to the triangle barrel. Highly doubt it shoots any different than most other Remington's. Some comment on the plastic stock, well that applies to much of the Remington line.

Most talk about how it looks. Of the actual buyers most of them say it shoots well.

Have no doubt the actual users of the VTR have positive answers to your questions.

Ya I imagin thats all it is, but it would be interesting to hear how they hold POI under some stressed conditions...

I hear good I head Bad, I do not care for the visual appearance myself but that is not relevante, in this case.

They have been making cut barrels as long as cylinders, some forget about the 1874 barrels...they were not round, as the 1884s and so on... cylinder barrels started showing up in the smokeless era.

I shoot 130 in 4 hours at the range. I would shoot a lot more if I had my own private range and didn't have to wait for targets going up, down and sideways every 5 minutes. :D

I believe Jason has his own private range so he can shoot as much as he likes? right?

50 in an hour is crazy! :) I usually shoot 20-30 in 4 hours but maybe I'm the crazy one

I do it all the time! its no right or wrong! 308s do not get as hot as some, but a good tactical rifle should take this punishment.

I think you are doing it the proper way, vs beating on the barrel, but military grade equipment should be able to take it.

does anyone actually sit down and shoot 250 rounds in a row?

Sure. Not all shooting is prone off a dozen bags, and a Remplepod.

Set up a couple of gongs, grab some ammo, and have at her from various positions. track the bongs, and there is your score.

The heavy barreled rifles that I have had that were good shooters open up a little, but they still out shoot me in positions, and when they cool off, return to normal. These are 308/223 though. I am sure it would not work the same for Uber Magnums.

I shot 421 handloaded .223 over the course of a day in an AB gopher patch. Cleaned the rifle after every 100 and never let it get too hot. That was six years ago and I have yet to shoot that many rounds in a day since. (Not even .22lr, though I,m sure I have done 300+). American gopher nutz can burn out a barrel in a long weekend in South Dakota 2000+ over a few days.

Hey Jason,

My Dad doesn't have that many rounds through his yet. I have just bought mine. So you know what we will be using for ammunition. After I get some time, I am supposed to do the review of this rifle for the CSSA Magazine. Not up to level of use you are taking about, just the typical short review. The review I read about it on the Sniper Central I discredit because he already has a dislike for the rifle, and he did not attempt to find the supper that this beast likes, so he really didn't do his work. In the end, while he didn't like the way it looked, he said it did shoot MOA with a few different brands. But since he was reviewing it as a sniper he didn't choose to take the time to find the best round and load. He was commenting on things that you or I would never need to care about, i.e. how it would stand up being dragged on the ground for a couple miles.

As for me, I love my Dad's VTR, I love the look of it, all of it and I like the scope I chose to get for him (Burris Fullfield II Tactical). I liked it so much that I am getting whole set up for me too, but at a lot more money since it was a better dollar when I got his stuff.

I have to say on a side note, that I do not like the bi-pod attaching to the sling swivel. I am going to install weaver rails on them and get some Harris ones that attach to the rail.

If it helps for your information, I have info on a guy with a 223 version (going to include his stuff when I submit my article to CSSA). And he changed the stock. What his issue was is that he liked to shoot and shoot and shoot with no break, the plastic stock would heat up and touch the barrel and effect impact. He could of just relieved the stock a bit but he chose to change the whole stock.

I have 1 in 308 and I did 20 in 1/2 hour to see if the triangle barrel would handel it. First shot was a flyer and all the rest shot a inch & a 1/2 group @ 100 meter's. I used 2 detachable mags. Yes I know that this rifle dosn't come stock with it but I moded it to accept the Remington detachable magazine trigger plate and mag. I have this set-up on EE cuz I am putting this rig on a Knoxx Axiom alumin stock, custom trigger job & maybe a VBull magazine kit for it. I have well over 500 rounds of surplus South African (A.k.A. $h!t Ammo), Isreali and Portuguese. The best so far was the Portuguese, @ 200 it could hit a 2" chunk of metal all the time & I suck when it comes to shooting steady. I think it has something to do with timmy's coffee.
