i see that there quit a few people with them and i was wondering if it made your rifle group better or anything? also will it only fit a 308 action or will it fit a 233 action also? and about how much do the stocks cost?

For me the choice was for ergonomics, it did not improved my groups, just made it easier to shoot it accurately.

In regards to calibers, there is a model for long and short action.
So the choice of caliber is not a problem, except maybe some tweaking for the mags.

AICS Fun

I've got an AICS stock V 1.5 ONLY for the LCV (look cool value) :D yuk, yuk, yuk.

Okay, back to reality....

While doing the Abbotsford M14 Clinic back in Oct 2004, Skullboy  showed me his AICS setup. Just like the scene from the movies with Will Smith: "I have got to get me one of these", I said after hoisting one of his AICS dressed M700's. I was thoroughly impressed with the way the thumbhole fits my med sized hand (not for everybody). :D Images of LCV again....

The AICS stock for the Rem M700 SA will fit all of the M700 Short Actions, so I would be confident that the AICS will fit your SA in .223 Rem. Now the mag feed is another issue since the mags are made for .308 (and .243 or .22-250 IIRC)

Does it help your groups ? I'm not sure since the very first thing I did with a new M700 VS was to sell the HS stock unfired and untested. I replaced it with the AICS setup and next thing you know I'm shooting 1/2" groups at 100 meters (center to center) all the time. Holy Shzt ! I've always been known to have shztty bench technique and I'm very hasty at the sandbags so when I'm putting the 5 155 gr AMAX bullets into 1/2" or 3/4" quickly, I'm happy as a pig in slop. :p I think I bought this AICS stock BEFORE I bought the Remmy M700. :D

Downsides ? Sure this stock is heavy, but I ain't going hunting with it... that's a job for my .223 M700 skinny bbl'ed earth pig killer. :D This sniper rig goes from the Jeep to the firing point and then back to the safe, that's it... I'm too old to carry this thang around the field. And if I do get out hunting coyotes with it, I'll be parking my backside in a ground blind at the edge of a treeline.

Now magazines are a biaatch to obtain from Wolverine. Ryan says he's been trying and trying to import them. So we'll just hang tough for the time being. In the meantime, I have not found a way to rig my Blackhawk cheekpiece on (more LCF, look cool factor) the V 1.5 stock. I'm trying my best to get used to the plastic cheekpiece that is adjustable with a 3 mm Allen key. ;)

Should you get one ? I have a hard time telling people what they should or should not buy (except for Norinco M14's or Norinco M1911's :p ).... Now, if you pick one up and say, "I HAVE GOT TO GET ME ONE OF THESE!" Then you MUST work a few extra shifts and save up yer money for an AICS setup. That is the true acid test of what you should buy. Use this quote very sparingly around your wife, g/b friend, or shooting partners.

I have had a pleasure of shooting one and can say, it didn't fit me. so make sure you try one out before spending the money.

Stocks can help you shoot better. Like a good light trigger, gives you more control and consistency.

Is this shape for everyone? No more so that the 2X4 looking BR stocks that work so well for that discipline. It is a specialized design for a narrow end user (tactical/target shooting from a bipod, horrid off the bags). For them, it works well (if it fits the shooter). For LCF, sure why not. For the vast majority of shooters, it serves little purpose and they would be better served with different stock and stock styles.

I tried a friends Rem 700 in an AICS and found it very comfortable for my right hand on the pistol grip but my left hand was uncomfortable on the squared off fore stock. I have held very comfortable moulded plastic stocks but the AICS is not one of them. Nice if you shoot off a bipod or tripod and you never have to hold the forestock. Also I wished the AICS did not center the trigger as it does. It would be better if the trigger was closer to the rear guard to make shooting with gloves better. Just my experience on the matter.

Maybe you should have tried the rifle first before replacing the stock. Who knows, it may have been just as accurate and you could have saved yourself a ####load of money.

I have one on a rifle I have for sale over in the EE. For me the ergonomics work well. Having had these rifles with the HS Precision stock and the AICS, I've found that I can produce marginally better groups with the AICS. somewhere in the .5 to .75 moa area with the rifle I currently have. For me the first time I picked up a HS Precison stock I thought.... who the hell made this? it was one of the most uncomfortable things I'd ever hald, but since then have gotten used to them. For comfort, my preference is a MacMillan over either. Everyone seems to focus on the AICS cost as it relates to accurizing their rifles. A lot of people like the idea of using the AI mags. When you compare upgrading to a quality MacMillan stock with the HS Precison mag well and 10rd mags, all of the sudden the AICS price seems a little more worth it.

I have 2 AICS rigs and love them both!!!:p

The H-S- PSS stock was too wide in the palmswell for my liking, and the AICS pistol grip fits my hand perfectly.I also wanted a detachable magazine, and the AICS mags are one of the best mag designs going.

The square fore end does bother some, but I don't mind it.I usually shoot form a rest (my ruck) so my left hand is holding the rear of the stock in my shoulder.

As said, try one out BEFORE you buy as they are not for everyone. The only other stock I would consider trying is the McMillan A4 or A5 series.

If you are just looking for a detachable mag, contact V-Bull Precision. They make a mag conversion for Remington 700 Short actions that utilise AICS mags.I have seen the conversion and it is SWEET!!!!!;)

Is that how you say it in Cantonese? I'll have to remember that for my cantonese friends. Edited by Hungry: Yes, that's the literal pronunciation. Just give'r.
