sorry for another thread!! esp about my Rem 700 sps .270... normally is a charm, thrn run out of stock on preffered ammo so switched, accuracy was very average so switched again but as of today i couldnt put 2 shots next to each other of a fairly good rest...i was confident.

So i thought theres gotta be an issue somewhere else as ammo cant spray an be so inconsistant, Ive just pulled the Stock off an found summer grass seed under the barrel just forward of the lug and also some schit under the lug itself....
Surely this is the accuracy issue!!!????

and also while the stock is off whats some quick tips while puttin back together? im sanding off a fair bit of front barrel channel to free float it...

bloody well hope it starts shootin straight!!

help please

Check if the batch numbers on the old and new ammo is the same. If not, that could be the start of you problem. Action screws tight? All of them? Rings and bases good and tight? What about the scope? Even pricey Austrian scopes can misbehave without warning.

If there is play between the recoil lug and the stock then that won't help accuracy either.

WhelenLad, you'll likely find that it will shoot better with 6-8 lbs (or in your terms 2.5-3.5 Kgs) of forend tip pressure. I have found 70% of my sporter weight barrels shoot better with forend tip pressure.

I have owned a few rifles that did not shoot as well, or better with a floated barrel, and those rifles either had very light contour barrels, or they had cheap plastic stocks, that weren't bedded. As well, the rifles with floated barrels, maintained a more consistent point of impact in changing conditions. However, given that the rifle apparently shot well with one load, and it has the cheap plastic stock, I would not be anxious to float the barrel, before trying other loads. I would clean things up, reassemble, and try some more loads.

Hey, i opened up the barrel channel a little more, an cleaned out some stuff between lug/barrel an stock, re shot it an got a satisfactory group .

winchester 130gr power points..
pls note im not a crack shot, evolved a flinch from the WSM but weening it out the more i shoot the 270win, this group im happy with, an proberly can do a little better when i stock up on ammo !

cheers for the rpelies
