I guessing but about 13 years or so ago i was in a shop in Stettler alberta and the owner was having a reduction of sako model 75's, They were priced at $1055 per rifle, but I was a shotgun man at the time and didn't own a single rifle...lol FS

20 years ago a model 70 was 700 dollars. a marlin 336 750 dollars. a 700 was 600 dollars. seems to me the prices are much lower in real dollars.

Bought a Win. M-64 brand new with a box of shells and a nice canvas case in 1972 for $99.99 at a sporting goods store in Toronto. The next year I bought my first M-70 at the hardware store in Midland for $199.95. In 1974 when the Win. Super-X Model 1 came out I bought one at Epps for $399.99 huge money for a shotgun in those days. Two years later in 1976 I bought a new Win. 101 skeet grade off Don Epps for $649.00. The prices seem so cheap now but those figures were all relative to the wages we were making at the time.

1951 ... Remington Wingmaster Deluxe @ $92.35 (a U.S ad price) ... bought new by my mom's step dad. It went to my dad soon after, and is now in my hands, still in very good shape. My first was a Cooey 12 ga. in the mid sixties, for under $40 IIRC.

Recall being sent to the store by my mother in the 50s with $.25, for a quart (not litre) of milk and a loaf of bread ... sometimes was allowed to keep the change for myself.

That being said, it is likely much easier for "average" folks to come up with the money for a new firearm nowadays than it was in those days.

I was working at a gas station the year we changed from Imperial to Metric - regular was 17 cents a liter and premium was 21 cents.

I bought my shotgun that year for 89 bucks and my single shot 30.06 (H&R) for $130, including shipping from SIR in Winnipeg :)

1958 - Marlin 39a - less than $100 from SIR
1959 - Remington 870 - $95
1965 - Remington 700 with scope and rings mounted - $250
1967 - Remington 40XB in 6 mm Rem - $233 plus a $5 COD charge (waited 7 months).
The Unertyl 2" Ultra Varmint 12X - $187 (waited 11 months)
We won't discuss the prices for S & W 41, 52 and 29 bought through the purchasing agent - OWTH - 111, 156, & 150
In the late 50's early 60's a brick of Whiz Bang was $6.75

In Toronto about 1966 Le Baron Sporting Goods located a store on the North side of Queen St. near Jarvis.

August 1970. My dad took me to Jerry's Budget Center at Jane & Wilson and let me pick out my first rifle, a No.1 Mk3 with a bayonette for $9.95. Still have it !
