I trust everyone will take a few minutes today, sometime, to remember those who sacrificed their lives in war, and thank God that we are free in this country, and able to enjoy our various firearm pursuits, among other things.

Best,
Ted

These days weird me out in the classroom (my workplace). Too many sad memories, but they are still there. Cannot get away from my class to go to the cenotaph for a good cry. Just gotta do it in my class!

Thanks for the kind intentions.... Many vets on this CGNutz board.

Barney

I was honored to lead the colour party on the bagpipes and play the Lament at the cenotaph. Thanks to all who serve past or present.

Attended the proceedings in Chemainus and was glad my wife suggested we take umbrellas. Good to see everyone staying until the ceremony was complete, even though it was pouring. It may have been a little uncomfortable but nowhere near the conditions and discomfort some of those we were honouring had to endure. We'll never be able to thank 'them' enough. I left my poppy on the base of the cenotaph.

We took time to remember today. Both my wife and I served in the Armed Forces. Her Dad was a carreer machinist in the Air force and my family served in every call out since the Boer War at least.

Today my thoughts are with those in active duty putting themselves in harms way for our family and country.

Hi Ted. I found this on Huntshoot.com and thought it was very good. Thought you might find it the same as I did.

CBC reported today ...

There are 400-500 WWII vets dying every week in Canada.

In WWI, there were 60,000 Canadians killed and relative to the population today, that would equal 250,000. That's a huge sacrifice.

We have so much to be thankful for in this country. It's not perfect, but it is VERY good here.

I'm so proud of my oldest boy! He carried one of the flag's in the Cub Scout Colour Guard on the march to the Cenotaph.

He's the one with the green flag.

EDIT: Sorry! I forgot to re-size the pic!

No ceremonies here in town (odd, I know) so I just spent the day reflecting quietly.

Hungry, don't tell me there's class today?

Welcome to Bantario, it ain't a holiday for us and Yup, I'm in the classroom crying in front of the kids. Only day of the year I wear my medals and a beret in front of the class.

Tomorrow, we have 2 assemblies for the grades 9 & 11's (gotta fit them all in the cafetorium) and then one other for the grade 10 & 12's.

A graduate from our school returned from 03-08 Task Force. He was in B Coy of the 2 VP battle group. They lost a pile of fellas! He will be attending our ceremonies and will be accepting a fund-raising cheque for the McDermott House (Sunnybrook Hospital). I am proud of our 10 students from our high school who have served in the 'Stan. 2 of them are STILL there right NOW. :D

God bless 'em all!

Cheers,
Barney

All Day Affair Here

In a town of 6,500...over 900 came out to our ceremony. Our choir sang and the Legion, cadets and 4-Wing did the "parade".

After that it was over to the Legion and I set up gear and entertained for 2 hours. Then toured to entertain those vets whom are stuck at the extendicare, long term care and lodge facilities.

Finished the day at 4:30 and feel mighty humbled by the experience.

I don't even know what to say. You need to change gigs buddy. That sh*t just isn't acceptable.

From my family:

To: Hungry and all the others who have or are serving...

:canadaFlag: THANK-YOU! :canadaFlag:

So little in return for so much.
God bless and keep you all safe.
