Hey everyone!
Well aside from my sheep tag, I have tagged out for the first time in years. Here is a pic of my Whitetail. I had two cracks at him where I got my Bull Elk this year but missed him. I later bumped into him again in the bush 2 1/2 hours later and at 50 yards this time he wasn't nearly as lucky.
He has really impressive main beams (to me anyway) being 26" and 25". Green score is in the 141 1/2 range gross, 134ish net IIRC.

280 Ackley and the other ones I know I am fogetting.
They helped get my rig together and offered tips for load ideas etc.
You guy's are great!
I only got to hunt a total of 3 days this year and tagged on two of those days so I was very blessed indeed!

Your not of the woods yet Noel. As I suspected my bear tag seems to scared all the bruins away, There was some old Elk sign but no volunteers. I got greedy second last time out and passed on 4 bucks, the last was decent but I knew I had another 6-7 days left so I rolled the dice and watched him go and I stupidly passed on a wolf and now that summers back I seem to have my work cut out for me. Last week I rattled in a young cow moose(I don't know if this is a commentary on my skills or not) but the bucks have gone to bed.
 
I was rattling at home the night before I shot my buck not a hundred yards from where I first took a crack at him the next morning. I thought I heard something coming my way but it was a bunch of does running past me and they just kept a going. They were up wind from me so I guess it was those big old 160 class antlers smashing away at my poor fingers that was the give away.
There is a ranch up close to your stomping grounds that is having real bad grief with roughly 14 wolves. Rumor has it I would be able to get access but I need to practice my long range shooting. Mind you, Rob got within 10 or 20 feet of the one, guess I could shoot that far.
It's good you can hold back from shooting everything you see. That's how come they get bigger! :)
 
Heres a really handy way of calling wolves, take your diaphram for calling elk with you and when you see them wolves( has to be before they see you) put that diaphram in your mouth and say weee, making it sorta high pitched to sound like a wounded rabbit. Its only good for a few setups before the wolves wise up but they'll come in like a bat outa hell the first couple times. And if you get one and the others are running away make a high pitch squeal trying for a distress sound. Have fun'

I grew up there, well sort of, in Bergen, 10 miles southwest of town.
We have been havin a great time with the coyotes at home up there, using our elk calls when the Elk don't come in. Last year on opening day we had a pack of five come out of the neighbors bush and head at a full out run for us, even with my scope on 3 power it was hard to see anything but fur when he stopped. This year was the same as usual, the elk rarely answer to our calls as the bow hunters teach them alot before thunder stick season opens not to mention post rut not helping alot. We do the high pitch squealing as you mentioned and giggle like little kids when they come charging, gets the adrenaline going every time! Thanks for the insight.

Thank you for the kind word John-Brennan. Only one thing, if you take a long shot don't knock off the brow tine. It sure makes a guy feel dumb every time you look at that and it doesn't help the score either! lol. So much for my good shooting. It must have been one of them flyers we come across at the range, yeah , that was it........
