I got my first Ross Rifle today. Traded an old .22 Marlin for it. The important part is that the guns barrel hasn't been messed with and is in original military configuration. The downside is..... Not the previous owner I got it from, but the previous owner some time down the line decided to carve the stock for like a.... McMillian stock or something? Not sure what the person had in mind but they did a terrible job doing it. The guns also missing the top wood. So, I will try to find a replacement stock set for it but in the mean time, I'm going to blend the "custom" stock job to make it look better.

I will take pictures after I get home and blend the stock. Pictures taken at the place I got it from so its not very clear or in great detail.

If I may suggest. Fill in the spots where wood was carved away and shape back to original profile. If closely matching wood is used it can be made to look pretty good until an original shows up or it can be used as a blank for a duplicating machine.

After reviewing the stock and comparing the stock to an image of an original stock, it looks like the person didn't take a whole lot off just carved out a little extra on the top and bottom. I will try to find a junk walnut stock to remove some material from to replace what has been removed. I will then simply need to find the top wood.

The Walnut doesn't have to come from a "junk" stock. There are stocks out there that have been modified as sporters with the back end intact. They aren't expensive. Still, a decent piece of the proper type of Walnut should be available from any commercial outlet that carries hard wood.

Talk to Bill at Alberta Gunstocks, he does a very good reproduction stock set that would cost you around $300.00 last time I checked his prices.
