Hey guys, thought I'd post some pictures of our shoot that my family and I went on yesterday afternoon. Took my Ross MkI and III sporters, my '42 Longbranch and my Savage Model 12 FCV. My wife brought her favorite .22, a Sears and Roebuck her Grandpa gave her. Also took the chance to let our little girl learn a little about shooting by letting her shoot my airsoft gun at some paper tagets.

That Ross MkI is an absolute dream to shoot. Hardly any recoil, the stock fits me perfectly, action is very nice. The MkIII was a blast as well. They both just scream quality. As it was the first time shooting both rifles and shooting factory ammo the results werent really impressive yet, but I bet this time next year things will be different!

Did a ladder test with the Longbranch and found some very promising results, can't wait to take it out again now. Had fun with the Savage too, its coming right along. Nick just loves her .22's, she burns up boxes of that stuff like its going out of style. I think our little girl did pretty well too, she's starting to understand the safety stuff a bit I think. Maybe this time next year she will be able to try a .22 of her own, or at least an airgun.

Ya we're getting a bit already, starTing to build a base too. No frost in the ground yet though.

She's a little turkey that one. Just loved the FA on the airsoft gun. She killed its battery tweice and probnably shot 1500 rds. Addicted at 5?

All in all a great day. Bit hard on matchkings, 4895, cardboard and milk jugs but now I can say I've shot a Ross or two and have all my fingers and toes!

Can't wait to get the MkI restored to its former self. What a privilege its been to be the first to shoot her in 60 years!

Super pics. Great shooting location too.

I wish I had some of that snow to track whitetails. It's 16 in Northern Nova Scotia today...hot for hiking and hunting.

What's the 'ladder test' you refer to?

I believe ladder testing is where you load up, say 5 rounds with a certain weight of powder, and then 5 rounds with a slightly heavier powder charge, and so on until you find one that will give you the most accuracy.

There's a bunch of ways to do it. I'm cheap and don't have a ton of spare time so I like to load up 20rds going up from start load in .2gr increments. Shoot paper at 200m, recording where each hit lands. When you find a group of shots that land at the same elevation that's a node. Next time out load up 5rds of each load that shot into that node and see which one groups the most consistantly same elevation, whichever is best is the load for that rifle. This Longbranch likes a few 1/10s below max with 174 matchkings over 4895. It put two of the five bullets in that node into the same hole and the others well inside 2" so I'm very excited to load up 5 shot groups of those loads for next trip. This rifle hated the factory PRVI load btw.

Was probably just a flukey day that it shot MOA though, I also shot about .3MOA out of the Savage at 500m and I normally am only able to shoot just over MOA with it.
