after doing some research, it appears I have a broken extractor on my 870 express, and it is stopping the gun from operating properly. Any ideas what this might run a guy to get fixed?? It appears the front end of the extractor broke off, I would assume I would need an extractor spring and rivets?? also is this something a guy can try himself or should it be done by a smith?? thanks in advance.

The part pointed at in the first pic is the extractor and it can be changed on your own very easily. The part pointed at in the 2nd pic is the ejector, it also acts as an indexing tab for the barrel...I'd recommend you bring it to a gunsmith or someone who has played with 870s before.
well, got a quote on the parts to be replaced, our local gunsmith will charge me 125.00 to fix this, but it turns out I may still be covered by warranty. otherwise I will be selling the shot gun for parts, as spending 125.00 on parts/labour or buy a new one for 400 seems pointless.

The link only shows the replacement of the ejector spring. The OP needs to replace the ejector so he'll have to completely remove the ejector spring, ejector and both rivets. So, unfortunately the only piece he can save and re-use is the ejector spring, the 3 other parts will require replacement.

Where did you get the parts for that.??? or did you change all 4 Last set of the 4 items I got out of the US cost me 55 bucks , 2 rivets, spring and ejector shipped to canada. Be more like 60 with today's exchange rate. To the OP add 1/2 hour labor to that and 125 total is not out to lunch at your smiths
Well the OP did confirm that the ejector (which also acts as an indexing tab) I was pointing to in my second pic was the piece that broke...he/she may have possibly got it confused with the ejector spring...but I'm pretty sure he/she could tell by looking into the damaged gun that they are 2 seperate pieces. Also, considering the fact the OP said "It appears the front end of the extractor broke off" (wrong part terminology but safe to assume they know the diff between front end and back end of things) I'm fairly confident of what I wrote! If I'm wrong...I'll retract my statement!
Do you always replace the ejector with a new one when modifying guns or just modify them with a dremel? Or do you actually see that many ejectors have the end sheared off of them that they need replacing?

Don't do that many any more maybe 2 a year or so for just myself and friends. Either way works just fine in fact most times I can reuse the rivets if I take my time on guns I use myself. Most guys will want it replaced with new since we are at it and the labor is usually a trade for something or free
See more express with ends gone than wingmasters probally due to the way they have to be used to work properly in many cases. Just did a 410 wingmaster one of my own last fall. Bought it damaged with the barrel turning and have had the parts for a year. Too much snow and blower repairs since dec to even look at a gun lately

I have contacted Remington, I have filled out the paper work, and am going to email it in to see if I am still covered. As for smith prices, yes 125 is probably not out to lunch, but I can replace the whole thing for right around 400, then i have a new one that doesn't have a bunch of rounds thru it already.
I hear you. Plus if you part yours you will probally get 200 plus back. Barrel alone will bring 125 on a bad day
