looking to buy my first bolt action. I'd like to use it for target shooting, hunting and zombie sniping.

I like the look and feel of the SPS Tac AAC (without silencer), but would like to know what the pro's think? Is this a good investment for target shooting, hunting in Alberta, and modifying? Do I need to do anything to this rifle to upgrade?

Thanks,

-Jeff

The stock is sub-par, it's injection molded plastic. You could upgrade it with a bell and carlson...etc. By then you'd be over $1000 and would have been better off getting a stainless 5r or xcr tactical, that already come with a fiberglass composite stock.

Regarding the AAC blackout, I have one on my 700P. The rifle was tuned up by Sean at North Shore and it shoots sub MOA at 100m. He installed my Blackout and the recoil is reduced substantially to that of a .223.

If I had the funds, I could shoot this thing all day without any felt recoil and shoulder discomfort. The AAC brake works amazingly and does what it is designed to do.

You're confusing the muzzle brake with the rifle with a similar name.

FWIW, the Hogue stock isn't the highest quality stock made but it's no better or worse than other rifles in it's price class. The 1:10" twist barrel will give you a little more flexibility in terms of bullet choice up to about 210 gr. or so.

I personally like the shorter length barrels over the longer ones so 20" in length is pretty much ideal IMHO. For what you intend to do, I wouldn't go longer. The threaded barrel is of little relavence to us, unless you plan on installing a muzzle brake like the one mentioned above.

If I were in the market for another Remington 700 in .308 Win., this rifle would be my choice.

FYI, there's a great video series that a guy on Sniper's Hide has done on this exact rifle from the perspective of new shooter. It's worth your effort to watch it if you're a member there.

I've got one and it shoots great. I did change the stock ( Choate) and dressed it up though. It's pretty heavy to be hauling around but I'm sure you could find lighter stocks and save all the other gadgets for the range or shooting longer distances.
