I would like to hear some other opinions on my recent 870 jamming problem.

Out last weekend blowing up some clays. First 100 rounds were federal #8 shot. Zero problems- gun was slick as piss.

Got off another 20 rounds of winchester #7 1/2 shot and the gun began to not want to eject the spent rounds. It took quite a pull to open the chamber. This is the second time this has happened.

Is it because the gun is ++hot after 100 rounds or is it the cheap winchester ammo, or what?

soem 870's have issues with ejector fingers. maybe check out yours, the gap allowances might be too tight..

If they were Winchester "Universal's" they are crap. If you had no problems with the Federals use them.

My borther had problems with winchester ammo as well, but only the ones bought from canadian tire with the bird on the front. When I had the 870 before passing it to him I never had any problems with ammo.

I had the same issues with a 3 1/2" 870 and it would jam every time, the damn gun was new. What I found was that the bolt face actually deformed the side of the chamber wall where the rim of the case would catch and stick!!!

Until I found this I was tearing through case heads with the extractor!!!

Take the barrel off and look at the 9 0'clock position on the chamber and if there is any sign of mushrooming, deformation, remove it with a dremal too. Just enough to clean it up mind you!

This gun will shoot any ammo I feed it!!

Food for thought!!

There's 4 Wingmaster's here that don't like those cheap shells. I will not bang my Wingmasters butt on the ground because of poor quality shells. Buy the $10/box shells....or buy a shotgun that you can treat like a 303LE.

Yes the Universals are s**t. But they are cheeeeeaaaap!

I don't understand why a shooter would spend the money on a gun, accessories, club fees, targets, hunting trips only to think there was some virture in shooting the crappiest shells they could find.

I don't understand why anyone would buy their Ammo at Canadian Tire or Walmart. These "cheap" 4 packs are no bargain when you can buy flats for much cheaper. And support your local gun dealer.

won't hurt to polish the chamber: take a 12ga bore brush, wrap in 000 steel wool and saturate with gun oil. Then take the whole set up and run it in a hand drill in the chamber area. Then wipe out and lightly oil chamber.

Thanks for the advice.

Curious why it would only be the winchester rounds though

Each gun is different, whether it's an 870, 12, 1300 BPS or any other. Some just don't like certain shells. I have one 870 here that will not shoot Federal Black Cloud. It works fine in any other gun but not that one. I have another that hasn't given any troubles (yet) that I'm most pleased with.

I am having the same problem with my newest 870. It happens with all sorts of shells though and seemingly at random. I only got to fire 35 rounds so I am hoping it will go away with use.

me and my buddy both got fairly new 870s and neither like the cheap winchesters but no problems with the federals and for couple extra dollers for the federals totally worth. but i definitaly gunna be trying trotters advice
