Hey guys~since I'm not in/on the gun show circuit..I never have occasion to speak to guys buying/selling older guns and gun parts...so I'm turning to my CGN brethen! Anyhow, I've been using an old 11-48 for years, inherited it from my grandfather who wasn't nearly as tall as I am. When he had it, he chopped the butt stock but for me to avoid a bruised cheek, I had to make a spacer. Did a nice, clean job of it back in the day (over 20 years ago) but I've started to think it would be nice to have it back to factory spec size-wise. I searched the EE here, contacted WGP=no dice. Anybody have any leads on where a guy might look?

Thanks!

Pretty sure an 1100 or 11-87 stock can be made to fit?! Try run a Google search on the subject maybe and see what turns up. Lee Roy's Ramblings...I think that's where I saw the info.

Thanks for the reply, but I highly doubt they would work on an 11-48. It's a recoil-operated shotgun. One look at the internals of an 11-48 (specifically, the bolt) and you see how the right stock matters.

As I stated...and below is the link!

"Replacement wood is a problem, especially forearms, but a later model 1100 buttstock can me made to fit."

Thanks VLT79~I did check that link, and just re-read it now. In my humble opinion, "can be made to fit" is extremely vague. Now, I've never held an 1100 buttstock and an 11-48 one side-by-side, so perhaps that statement is true..but what exactly needs to be done to make it work? I don't honestly know..and that link sheds no light on the specifics. I appreciate your input nonetheless.

I'll keep my eye out for some wood for you as I'm looking for a mod choked barrel for my 11-48. If I find one I'll keep you posted as I'm in Ontario too just north of the GTA.

Cheers

^thanks DaMikey~greatly appreciated. I have a FULL choke barrel in the EE right now, but considering taking it down. (might have it chopped) If you have NO barrel, let me know...but lots of these were FULL that I've found, so I'm guessing that's what you have.

I've owned a few 11-48, 58, 1100, and a couple 11-87. The difference for the 11-48 vs others is the length of the rebound tube. If I remember correctly the 11-48 is shorter than the 1100. So that means you'll most likely have to remove some wood from the guide hole in the stock so the nut can tighten. You may also need to inlet the front portion of wood found under the trigger guard tang as the 1100 has a closed rebound tube vs the open design (first few inches) on the 11-48. The 11-48 was the first Remington to utilize that streamlined receiver design and all others until the 887 came along are based on it. It's been a while since I've played with an 11-48 but I'd say there's less than 1hr worth of work to fit an 1100/11-87 stock to one of them. Maybe 4hrs to convert an 870 stock if a guy has a decent selection of wood drilling tools & experience.
