There is a gun auction coming up and an 11-48 is on the list .. Can a fully rifled slug barrel be bought too fit this 12 gauge ... Lots of areas are going shot gun only for deer and maybe it will sell not too high ... Thanks in advance

You can fire factory made slugs through any choke on this model. Finding a rifled barrel will be very difficult. I think that model was discontinued in the 60's... long before rifled slugs barrels became somewhat popular.

In my experience recoil operated shotguns have very poor performance with slugs. I have had a buck special 16 gauge Auto 5 that would do about 10" groups @50 yards on a good day. Tried again with a shortened 12 bore Auto 5 even worse with absolutely no usable accuracy past 40 yards. I attribute it to the recoiling barrel and the movement it has. I doubt they never land in the same orientation to the receiver after each shot. Of course this does not affect shooting shot. The 11-48 is a good old dependable shotgun but shots under 35 yards with 00 buckshot may be your best option. Now if you do buy it try it with several brands of foster slugs it MAY be one of the few that actually performs. Just for the sake of conversation Remington did offer 26" factory smooth bore barrels with rifle sights for the 11-48 in the early 1960's.

A good friend of mine had similar results trying to shoot slugs out of an A5.

Many years ago I tried a model 1400 Winchester with slugs as there was no rifled barrel for that gun and it was terrible .. not so much all over the place but four inches high .. I drilled and tapped it and tried a scope but not very good ... I did see a Remington with a rifled barrel from HASTINGS that had open sights and was about 26 inches... But I believe it was a pump 870
