Remington 1100 12g

A old 1100 is not worth sending a barrel to Briley to get choked tubes if it is a 12ga or 20ga. Others yes because they cannot be done in canada
Way cheaper to get the work done in canada
Cheers

I bought a used K 32 many years ago, with a set of those "less expensive in Canada" cheap Colonial brand choke tubes installed. Disaster struck on the first box of shells. The dealer that installed the tubes and Colonial wouldn't stand behind their workmanship or product. $1,100 CDN later, I had a gun that I used a couple of times and eventually sold for a lot less than I paid for the gun with a 2" shorter barrel.

I'm sure there are lots of quality jobs done in Canada, but in my case, I'm a little "gun shy" about them.

Back in the day when tubes started all one could find here it seemed was colonial thin walls. I have ithaca 37, superx1 and 1100's fitted with them and yes I have split at least two I can remember.
I honestly only have 12ga tubes fitted by a guy in Nova Scotia and was always pleased with his work mind you I have not had tubes fitted in a 12ga now since probaly the late 80's early 90's. All of my 10ga, 28, 410 and 16ga were done state side by Briley and 100% pleased
That being said I have been told there is guys in Ontario doing a good job of 12ga and 20ga. I think epps was one but don't quote me on that

There are lots of nightmare stories about choke tube installations by local gunsmiths out West as well.

I have been shooting 1100's since the early 70's. Your 3" barrel won't work well with upland/target loads , but will cycle well and reliably with 2 3/4" heavy field loads,or 2 3/4 magnum loads, however don't shoot steel shot. This leaves you looking for a 2 3/4 " barrel for clays, and there are lots of these available , frequently with open chokes like IC / Skeet and frequently a full choke for trap.

The 3" barrels with choke tubes are hard to find, and over priced , but do come up on occasion. Keep the gas piston/cylinder free of any oil and the 1100 is a very reliable gun.

Watch the EE for barrels, often a seller will break up a gun with multiple barrels .

My 3" barrels will not cycle even heavy 2 3/4 field loads. Mag 2 3/4 high brass loads yes for sure 100%
Then again I have not tried any for years since I just put on a 2 3/4" barrel when using any 2 3/4 shells
Cheers

I had my smith open the full choke on my 1100 Magnum to light modified (skeet2) It is deadly with 3" Magnum #4 steel shot. It cost about 100.00 with some shipping to have the work done. In my old age I am preferring fixed chokes that pattern well over screw ins. I do have some screw in barrels on my other guns I just prefer the simplicity of fixed chokes. However most of my fixed chokes have been tweaked to provide the performance I want.

Same here. Mine's a 2 3/4" and had it opened to LM locally for $50. It's a great spare clays/waterfowl gun. I have $375 invested in it now.
