Remington 1100 - Convert to pump?

Do you really need gas piston rings?

If you keep it clean and lubed all you’d likely occasionally need is a new o-ring.
I can get you 3 viton o-rings for your 1100 for 6 bucks shipped to your door regular envelope mail.

How many rounds do you shoot or plan to shoot through it annually?

Maybe I'm not good at finding parts because I have spent a serious amount of time looking online and found little of what I was advised to buy. Given that:
- one cannot legally import firearms parts without a permit
- my local gun shop has told me there are no more parts available

Can anyone tell me where to find:
- Gas piston rings (I've only found this on eBay, and they don't ship to Canada)
- Trigger groups

I did find some firing pin return springs on the Shotgun Parts EE forum and might order some.

Really?

Thanks for all your answers. I've just bought an 870 so I'll be able to compare the parts and see what might fit.

Firing pins and extractors are the same on the 870/1100. Many parts but not all in the trigger group as well. I think that's pretty much it. Wood is different, forend parts different.

Your local fun shop is full of useless people.
All the parts you want can be bought online at numerous place.
Brownells has everything you need and ship to can with no issues at all

Whoever said you cannot import gun parts is a fool or lied to you,no permit needed

Except that Remington went bankrupt in 2020 .... and supplies for Remington gun parts has faded away in the last 3 years and dealer's shelves are empty. And the new RemArms company was slow to ramp up production and they focused on producing actual guns and neglected shipping out spare parts.

Only now are we seeing a steady supply of Remington guns coming into Canada again .... and we have not seen a steady supply of spare parts yet.

I checked myself ..... everybody is out of stock for Remington 1100 gas pistons. And they were readily available before 2020.

Gravel Agency should be set up by now and to be able to order spare parts from RemArms. Once you place an order with Gravel ... it might take some time till Gravel actually gets those parts ..... My experience with them .... it can take 2 -3 months and up to a year. But they will get those parts eventually ....

The 1100 shotgun is still being made and sold by the new RemArms company .... so RemArms still has to produce spare parts for that model.

This is incorrect. Some countries (US) have licensing or fees for export and so some companies don’t bother exporting.

I don’t get what you’re trying to do. You say you have a nice 1100 that sounds like it’s in working condition that you don’t want to shoot in case something breaks but you’re willing to butcher said nice 1100 in an attempt to turn it into a worthless pile of garbage with 870 parts that are practically as difficult to find currently. Do I have that right? Good luck if you decide to pursue that option. Personally I’d try to find the spare parts you want and keep shooting it in its current form.

In Canada you can try:

Gravel (mentioned a few of times already)
Western Gun Parts
The EE on CGN (pretty sure I saw an 1100 trigger plate in the parts section for months on end, it may still be there)

In the US (yes, they ship to Canada, no you don’t need an import permit for what you’re looking for):
Numrich (they currently list piston, piston seal and trigger plates in stock)
gunrepaircenter.com (terrible website so I didn’t scroll through the random pages of parts but they supposedly have a relationship with the current RemArms)

I’d find a new gun shop because it sounds like it’s full of imbeciles. Any reasonable gun shop would have tried Gravel, Western Gun Parts and Numrich before saying they can’t get the parts you’re looking for. They advised that you get a trigger plate? Pretty hard to wear one of those out or break them.

If you released the hammer unsupported after removing the trigger group buy pulling the trigger, that piece you broke is not that easy to find. I'll give you that.

Might I suggest you visit a different gun shop?
- O rings are fairly easy to find... a quick google search shows them in stock on amazon.ca... and just about everything else could be sourced from Brownells (Assuming Gravel and/or Western Gun parts doesn't have it in stock)

Is the gun currently out of service because of broken parts? Or you're just thinking (way) ahead of time for future repairs?
- I've seen more damaged o-rings from user errors (while taking the gun apart) then people wearing them out.

This Missing Video + responses

Thanks for everyone's input. My new 870 arrived yesterday so I made a video comparing the parts so that anyone can see for themselves.

Responses...

Do you like Remington 1100s?? Would you shoot it or keep it as a save queen?
As much as I want to collect guns, I try to avoid hoarding and I'd probably sell...reluctantly.

I don't need rings ATM. It just seemed better to sell a functioning gun vs one that needed a [hard to find] part.
Less that 1000 rounds annually I'd say (through the 1100)

Thanks. I checked again and you are right. But I've limited success finding parts in the USA too (willing to ship to Canada).

Thanks. I feared I didn't know how to use the internet :D
Also, sounds reasonable but my inner pessimist is hard to convince.

No, I don't want to ruin my 1100. I was just wondering if it's feasible to swap a few parts.

The latter...I'm thinking way ahead.
