Remington 1100 magazine follower pushing through

I acquired an older 1100 recently. When I shoot it 9/10 times it double feeds and then at the end the magazine follower pushes through into the action.

I replaced the magazine follower and follower spring but I have the same issue. It fires and cycles fine. Anyone else ever dealt with this?
 
The only thing I can think is that the lip holding the follower back has been worn over time and is now no longer to spec. This could be the result of using a steel follower vs an aluminum one.

Double feeding is an interesting thing too, maybe your spring is too long? But again, the double feeding may be a result of out of spec lip in the reciever.
