Remington 1100 matched pair 28 gauge and .410

One thing for sure was regardless what it broke I could fix it right there in like 15 minutes but for some reason it always seemed to happen on station 8 when I would find that extra shell in my pocket. Just to have me almost or miss the last bird :(

Where the Remington 1100s are unique (sort of) is in the subgauges. No one else is making a gas-operated .410 and only a couple of others are making 28 gauges (Beretta and Weatherby.) Benelli and Fabarm make 28 gauges but their guns are inertia operated and impossibly light for clay target shooting.

I used a 28 gauge 1100 Skeet as a training gun for small statured shooters. I had to replace action bars (twice,) the link, an extractor and the metal piece that retains the ball bearing that secures the cocking handle. The good news is that the gun is easy to work on, parts are plentiful although the action bars weren't inexpensive. If you order Remington parts always order them two at a time. You'll probably need them at some point.

I now use a Beretta 391 20 gauge for the same purposes and the only part I've had to replace is a cocking handle.

If what they say is true...if its on the internet, it must be true....Then they cost $550 each from ellwood epps....

There are reasons to be wary about those guns. The first is that Epps, in my experience, is quite, uh, generous with its condition assessments. Strictly speaking from the description the .410 should probably be assessed as "fair" with a cracked forend and a "partly broken" front bead. What the heck does "partly broken" mean? It's either broken or it's not.:rolleyes:

Also, the ad for the 28 gauge refers to some "speckling on the right side above the forend" which could mean anything plus the stock was replaced with "non-original fleur de lis checked high gloss walnut stocks." The condition, broken parts, replaced stock, cracked forend devalues the set.

My only concern with that is what Epps assessment of NRA "Good" is... I have seen wildly differing opinions on condition rating from Epps... even "very good" makes me nervous... prefer "excellent plus" to "like new" if I can't personally inspect before buying... and good photos help... the Epps website really sucks.

I'm sorry Epps but I have to agree with you 100% . Which is why I ask for a ton of pics and have a guy there I trust go get the gun and talk to me with it in his hands and describe it now
I got burned on a 870 410 some years ago and was listed as very good and when I got it the barrel was turning side to side from a screwed extractor that was replaced so poorly the receiver was junk. if I didnot have another receiver the gun was parts
Comment we get 10,000 guns in a year we must have missed that
Any how. My big issue would be these are not skeet guns as listed , they are a field grade sets which is why there is no mag tube weights not missing like I thought first
Also they would have had their lowest grade mahogany wood no walnut so anything walnut on them now is not original which is also normally a sign LOP has been changed
Big one to me is the IC chokes and the 3" chamber on the 410
I don't want to tear these apart on the OP but I sure hope Epps gave him a better price than list if not I would be on the phone since he didnot get what they listed
Not saying they won't work well for him but thay are NOT a matched skeet set or a $1100.00 pair IMO in this condition. Epps knew what they had which is why they were not listed for $1500

The good news is the guys at Epps are true to their word. I have dealt with Epps more times then I wish to count, and they have always made good on their word...good, bad or indifferent. Only once did I make a purchase that was off on its description, and they did not hesitate to offer a discount or a full refund before I had a chance to ask. No retailer is perfect, but its how the situation is handled thats important. I continue to shop their because I know I'll never have an issue

Thanks. I didn't twig to the fact the guns in the Epps listings were the ones the OP bought. The asking price for both was a touch on the high side but not unreasonably so in these parts. Subgauge guns tend to attract a premium particularly in .410. It's hard to see how he could have got into the two subgauges for less without going to a pump gun.

This is true. I dont ever make special trips just to pick up a gun anyway. I know I'll be up their way at some point so I usually just buy the gun when something I like becomes available and worry about it when the time comes to pick up. And as mentioned, they have never let me down.
 
FWIW, I recently sold 1100LW skeet guns in excellent condition, in 28 ga. and .410, for $700 each plus shipping. They were not a matched pair. They sold on the EE within days of listing them. Nobody questioned my asking price. I am quite sure that a matched pair of tournament grade guns would fetch more than $1500. Probably closer to $2000!

Agree. 100% $2000 especially if higher grade wood and complete with the green case etc. Even with out $1500 plus for an excellent skeet set is a quick sale normally

Unreal is right! I was surprised when I saw this. A fellow CGN'r directed me to that site today and I happen to see that listing. 255 rang a bell in my memory bank
