I just got a new barrel with the screw in choke tubes for my 1100, but for some reason the action won't cycle open and closed after I fire. It would seem as though something is blocking the gas from throwing the action open. the gun functions just fine, you just have to manually cycle the action between rounds. It's a bit annoying. Has anyone had this happen before when swapping barrels? I never had this problem with my modified cylinder original barrel. It doesn't appear as though the barrels themselves or gas port holes are any different between the two barrels.

Sounds like the gas is bleeding off before it can do it's job cycling the action. Hve you checked the o-ring and made sure the piston is installed correctly?

Does your new barrel have a tiny gas regulator screw half-way down? If screwed right in it will restrict the gas ports and there is the problem.

Also what ammo are you using- very light handloads sometimes will not have enough push to cycle the action.

Check the front o-ring gas seal also.

1Shot.

make sure that when you removed the original barrel ... you didn't leave one of the gas rings and the "O" ring in the old barrel gas assembly...has happened to me occasionally

Yes, a new o-ring will fit tighter.

They are bloody expensive if you buy the official reminton Vitrol (or whatever) o-ring. Like $10 a piece!

I picked up 3 aftermarket ones in the states for $6 total.

More specifics:
Shooting trap loads out of a regular 2-3/4" 28" barrel. Never had a problem with this with my original barrel. There is no gas regulator screw in the barrel. The o-ring does look a bit stretched. All the gas rings are present and accounted for. It would appear that the gas is exiting the barrel, as I can see venting marks on the outside of the barrel coming from the vent channel on the handguard.

Perhaps it would be worth putting your original barrel back on to see if it is still functionning. If it is..it could indicate that the gas ports from the barrel are not letting sufficient gas through to cycle the action....maybe not drilled correctly....

check the size of the vent hole, I had the same problem with mine and found the hole on the new bbl to be undersized. Get the next letter drill or number drill, whichever is smaller and open up the hole. Before doing this though, especially if you don't know what you're doing, take it to a gunsmith and eithe let him do it for you or check to make sure that your gun is clean enough. 1100s need to be clean. I have one in 3 inch magnum that I regularly exchange bbls to 2 3/4 inch chambers to shoot trap with and jump ducks on creeks and ponds. If it isn't put back together and lubed properly, or is dirty, it just won't function. bearhunter

Go to a Hydraulic Supply Store and ask for this:

VITON O Rings

OD:1-1/16"
ID: 15/16"
Width: 1/16"

Make sure they are made of viton. They are either brown or black, doesn't matter which. They stand up to the heat of the gas much better than any other material. Most other materials are rated for 200deg F. Viton is rated for 400deg F. As Undrtkr said, they cost us about $0.40 each here.

PM me if you can't find any.
