Remington 1100 shooting steel shot?

I have a remington 1100 semi auto 12 gauge that is 2 3/4 inch chamber and I am wondering if it would be safe to shoot steel shot from it? It has a 28 inch vent rib barrel with a factory modifed choke. I think it would be okay just want to get a second opinion.

should be no problems with shot size no bigger than #2.....

I have used my 1100 modified with steel for a few years. I have not seen any ill effects. I know the #2's seem to hit the geese harder than BB. I have never patterned it to see if maybe that was the reason. When cupped BB knocks them down but the 2's drop them like a rock.
