Remington 1100 Sporting 28

Ive been out of clays shooting for 20+ years now and starting to get back into it.
Back in the day I shot a Remington 1100 sporting 28 gauge. Im looking at another one now and am wondering why the sporting 28 has a 25” barrel instead of the traditional 28 or 30” barrel?

Any thoughts?

Im also considering a Weatherby SA-08 in 28 gauge any considerations between the Remington and the Weatherby?

My 410 gauge 1100 Sporting has a 27.5 inch barrel with pro-bore extended choke tubes.

Earlier Remington Model 1100 28 gauge guns had 25 inch barrels.Later 28 gauge Sporting guns , had 27 inch barrels.

Do not know.When the Remington Model 110 28 gauge was introduced in the late 1960's only 25 inch barrels were listed.The Sporting 28 gauge version was brought out at a later date.Not sure when sporting clays became popular.The early guns with the 25 inch barrels were for upland hunting and skeet.

Perhaps the 28 gauge Sporting gun, the original posted speaks of, has had the 27 inch barrel changed at some point with a 25 inch barrel?

25 inches is short for clays. I would hold out for a 28 or 30. The Weatherby SA-08 has a nice adjustable gas system. It cycles light 28 gauge loads well.

Dug out my Remington catalogues they listed a 28 gauge sporting in 1997 with a 25 inch barrell and Rem chokes. The sporting 28 25inch was produced.

Was not aware of that.Had thought all sporting 28 gauge guns had 27 inch barrels.It would seem, the 27 inch 28 gauge Sporting barrel ,was added sometime after 1997.Good to know the Sporting 28 was added to the line in 1997.

Just thinking warzaw,what year do your catalogues say the 27 inch barrel was put on the Model 1100 Sporting 28?I am guessing in the next year or two at the most ,after the 28 Sporting was introduced in 1997.
