Remington 11100 HELP!!!

Hey all, so I took my 1100 apart for the first time to clean today and while putting it together I had an "extra" piece. I watched about 100 vids on youtube and none of them cover this piece. I put it back together and it seems to function properly. Cocks back, bolt locks open, trigger goes click.

Any ideas?

Shell latch (which has become unstaked). It retains the shells on one side of the tube mag. The hole in it will line up with one of the two trigger pins so once you remove them and the trigger group you'll see where it goes.
 
Bandicoot is correct. Appears to be the right side shell latch. When putting it back in, make sure the tip goes in correctly, otherwise it will block the correct operation and shear off.
The shell latches are usually staked into the receiver at the factory but do come loose over time.

"...none of them cover this piece..." That's because it shouldn't have been taken out. Don't rely on Youtube either. Buy a manual.
 
The part does not need to be re- staked. The cross pins of the trigger assembly holds it in place. It is also an easy job to re-stake the part with a sharp screwdriver and ball peen hammer. I have seen them re-staked by using a piece of metal to protect the outer receiver and then squeezing a smallish ball bearing between the outer pad and shell stop with a set of vice grips. Place the bearing on the original stake marks.

Wow... thanks for all your help and information. Maybe tomorrow you will wake up on the right side of the bed!



To everyone else, thank you for real. Had no idea what the name of the piece was so I couldn't even seach for it. Now that I know what its called I watched a few videos and will put it back together. Thank you.

I had exactly the same thing happen to my Remington 1100 about a month ago. I found out that it was a fairly common problem and it was quickly and easily re staked into the gun by a local gunsmith for $25.00. I also understood that it could be placed into the gun without being re staked but it would simply fall out again during its next cleaning. Easy repair and reasonably priced too!
