Remington 1900 damascus barrels

That is the scariest looking dint I have seen. That barrel needs a professional quality assessment.

From the photos it almost looks like there is an issue with a weld joint. It looks like the center of the dent/crater is low with edges of the barrel around the crater sticking up. Unless the photos are deceiving.

Looks like that damage is beyond a dent... I'd say there's no way you're going to be able to get that out, as it looks like it's gone way beyond the plastic deformation stage. Aaaand if it is damage caused by something smacking into it, there's no possible way it doesn't translate into the bore. That's ugly...

Hard to imagine that if its in fact a dent, that it is not showing on the inside. To displace that amount of steel without it going into the bore seems far fetched. I mean, how thick can the barrels possibly be and how porous is the metal?? The only other way I think that can happen is if it was chipped and I’ve never seen a barrel chipped like that. Definitely doesn't look like chip....looks like a deep dent...almost like a punch mark

Shame....the barrels look great other then that blemish

This dent would be considered un repairable by any good gunsmith specializing in barrel work, doubly so because the barrel is forge welded ( so called damascus or laminated steel). The metal has clearly ruptured at the edge of the dent, this terminal weakness won't be fixed by raising the dent. If it truly does not show inside then the bore has been rebored/honed without raising the dent first, leaving a thin weakened area which is also unsafe and is not something that any responsible gunsmith ( or amateur) would do.
Too bad, move on.
