Remington 1911R1 available at Ellwood Epps for $650.77(and undoubtedly elsewhere too)

talked to Ellwood E.

the 1911R1's are seen to be pretty good value as an 'entry level' 1911. apparently they sold 3 this morning. i didn't quite take the bait...

I handled one in person and was unimpressed. Most Norinco 1911's I have seen have a better finish. I think the frame is cast too.

Awesome gun for the money. Reviews are all solid. Accurate and well built. My only complaint is the sights are big for a 1911 but I woulnt hesitate to recommend one.

I saw one in person this past weekend. A very nice pistol. The only thing that keeps me from getting one is the stupid firing pin block they felt they had to put in it. Put me off from the Auto Ord GI pistol, too. An ingenious solution to a non-existent problem as the saying goes.

Not a 1911 expert, but if I understand Remington's FAQ page correctly, the block is similar to that of the Colt series 80 pistols.

But as I understand it, this degrades trigger feel?

is an online review (also put this in the 'which .45...' thread).

seems very positive... but i wonder if you say something bad, if your chance of getting a sample to demo goes down....
