Ok I got a used .22 vtr and yes it does jam, but this gunhas never been cleaned and a lot of rounds fired through it. So I tried getting the manual on line but it is only showing the 597 rifle . Also what mods can I do? I like the gun a lot

internals are the same head over to rime fire sports they will help you or just read the millions of threads on this very page that would have answered your question

Here is all the info you will ever need http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=218 made sure that you reinstall the guide rods correctly. I would also consider changing the extractor and the hammer with the VQ parts and then you gun will not jam with what ever ammo you feed it Trust me on this one you will not be unhappy! Most of the people who have problems with the gun have not set it up properly! If you have problems you can PM me

Ok thanks , I have also noticed that the action never stays open after it is empty or even no clip in it and i pull the action back. Is this normal, if not how do i fix the problem?

Curiously, how far back does the bolt handle go on yours? You know how the bolt path on the receiver turns into a smaller opening? Does the handle stop there or does it goes all way back?

Ok, that's normal then. The way this rifle is designed, the bolt handle can be pushed in too far and the handle strikes where the open end narrows. This causes feeding and bolt lock problems.

Do you have 10 rounders? For me, only the 10 rounders seem to activate the bolt hold open properly. To actuate the bolt hold open manually without magazine, have the gun unloaded. Pull the bolt back and hold it there. Stick your finger in the magazine slot and push up the hold open that is on the left side of the gun. Release the bolt. It's not hard to find as it's the only piece of metal there that sticks out. You can't push it up without the bolt back for obvious reasons. If it doesn't work, disassemble the gun and make sure all the parts are fine. Reassemble carefully and function check again.

I have a 30 mag and a 25 . I took a closer look at the 30 it is broke on the back side. So that's why it won't stay open after last shot. Ok so now what about my question on the compund for the guide rails. Where did everyone pick theres up?

All you need for compound is valve seating compound for engine valves it comes in different grits. I got mine from Acklands Grangier, if you dont have them around there try some performance engine shops.
Put the VQ trigger and extractor in as sugested, guide rods polished and in finger tight and STRAIGHT. They are easy to bend when polishing. best of luck, I love mine!

Ok I got the rods polished, I emailed milarm in Edmonton, they have the hammer but are sold out of the exractors, I am going to wait to get everything shipped at once. Now the waiting game.. thanks everyone for your help. Great site here!

Also loosen off the guide rod screws, they should be only finger tight. This will most likely help stop jamming issues.

I did this and got some vq parts and did not have a single issue since, with 1000s of rounds fired. (I use the federal bluebox 525s)
