Does anybody here have/shoot one of these little single shots with the cocking knob at the back? How does it shoot? Any other info?

It's a very simple rifle, and it would make a good hunting gun. Very lightweight. (This one was my grandfather's, who's father bought it for him used when he was a teenager. My grandfather was born in 192something, so we can imagine how old this rifle was.)

Is it unlike a Cooey? I would assume a need to re-#### after each shot.

Edit:

It would be interesting to learn which 510-model: the "510SB" was the smmothbore designed to "properly" shoot .22 shotshells.

The Remington 500-series was notorious for having multiple models, and perhaps multiple naming issues. In any event, the 510's with the rear-aperture sight usually seemed to be more popular for those seeking precision.

On a more curious note, it is rumoured that the bolts on some of the 500-series .22's are interchangeable - just in case you wanted to experiment.

Generic info: aprox 3-year production run, the Model 41SB is the smoothbore-shotsheel version. 41-P (peepsight) model is usually more sought-after. Generally accurate - more information to come.

Hm.. Any luck on the 'more information' part of your post?

Hi, That rifle is in my refference book.

Remington 41A "Targetmaster" Takedown, S,L,LR. 27 inch barrel, 5 1/2 Lbs, open rear sight bead front, Plain pistol grip stock.
Made from 1936 to1940

Sorry, it totally slipped my mind - what else do you need? ;)

Edit: I can confirm the 5.5 Lbs mentioned by brnolvr, add about steel & walnut, mention something about the trigger having garnered a few complaints for being a tad bit heavy (remedied with "spring-treatment"), and I was under the impression that the barrel was closer too 22 inches, but I'll look into it.

The barrel is certainly quite long. Almost too long, actually, making the rifle slightly unbalanced with its exceptionally light weight.

Seems like a great grouse/rabbit gun.

Doesn't look like its worth much, but I must ask anyway of course.
