What is with these bolt action 22's that don't feed properly? Bought a new factory ten round magazine the other day and it will not feed at all. If you lift the front of the mag a bit the odd round will go in? Have this same problem with a couple of other bolt 22's I own. Gunsmith? Or sell and keep using the trusty 10/22?

I'm not familiar with your mags, but quite often new mags require a bit of tweaking to work correctly. Are the feed lips metal? If so, all you need to do is bend it slightly so the bullet sits higher. If it's plastic feed lips, wrap a piece of sandpaper on a dowel and taper the lips to get it to sit higher. I'm sure if you stare at it long enough, you'll figure it out.

Thanks for the tips weasel1, it's the stock cheapo plastic mag with plastic lips. Wish I could find a metal one but no such luck. I will try sanding the front lips a little right now and see what happens.

Before tickling a new magazine's lips, look closely at your magazine retention assembly. 2 parts (leaf spring and a guide). These can bend a bit over time (or with strong hands). Have experienced it with the nylon 77/10c (similar retention system) where it just wouldn't feed nicely.

You'll have to work on it out of the stock. Make certain the screw is nice n' snug. If you're planning on bending it at all be very careful! Tiny increments on the guide until magazine aligns.

Also appreciate the helpful tip camster, thanks.
I sanded a little bit off and now it works! May have sanded a tad too much but it works!!

One thing I did with mine was glue a thin strip of wood to the stock up inside the mag well to keep mag centered and held firmly in position with no wobble.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure the 10 round mags were for use in the clip fed Nylon 66 version. I've heard the 5 round mags work better.
10C?

I have some NIB factory 5 round mags that are marked 541/581

And just for TDC, they are marked Remington Magazine Clip

Cheap plastic mag fell apart yesterday! There must be somewhere that sells a metal one for these!!????

Have searched everywhere but nothing. Hate to put this little beauty back into the safe for the rest of time just because of the mag.

They are all plastic. Even the Remington replacements are crap. I have had my 581 since 1971 and the original mag worked great. I lost it 2 years ago at the range and 2 replacement mags have both been crap. It's the internals that are weak.
