So picked up a new 597 22 WMR a few weeks ago at Cabelas in Nanaimo and got it to the range today. I wanted a semi 22 WMR and would have liked something with a better reputation than the 597 but figured they must have the bugs worked out by now. On the 3rd mag when I tried to squeeze the trigger on round 19 the trigger would not move. I checked it and it had not and would not reset from the fired position. I'll see if I have any luck with them re warranty but very disappointing.

If it's only a few weeks old can't you exchange it at, cabelas? I've never looked into their policy regarding firearms exchange.

Edit: apparently they may exchange it within the first 30 days.

I've had the same issue twice now and they (wholesale) will not return a firearm that's been shot. Pardon my lack of gun knowledge but the pin that connects the trigger walks out.

I don't imagine it would be that hard to fix. I know it is a new gun but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and avoid dealing with warranty depots if you want the gun to use in your lifetime.

sometimes I don't know if it's a curse or a blessing that I write off the shop I bought the 'thing' (anything) from and fix it myself. Only if I can't fix it myself do I go to the store and return the product. I try to do minimal additional damage before I decide to return the item so that they have even less grounds to dismiss my return. Best to get on this asap...

Fieldstrip and assess the issue, if self repairable (you'll need to be a good tinkerer for this assessment) repair it, or get back to the shop and return it asap... time is not on your side.

I see you're from Vancouver and got the gun in the Nanaimo cabelas? Sorry about the ferry fees. And I bet you'll have no choice to go back to the original shop to get dealt with fairly (aka complete refund).

Unless you can fix it yourself. I hear a pin falls out of place, sounds like a simple fix meself...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I decided that rather than wait months for warranty and fights over mailing costs etc I would see if I could sort it out myself.

I stripped it down and part of the linkage had popped apart, not surprising being its mostly plastic and held together with friction fit plastic caps. It goes bang on a snap cap and next weekend I will see if I can get more than a couple of mags out of it. My fat fingers and questionable fine motor skills made it a bit of a project and lack of decent pictures or diagrams of how it should go together made for some trial and error but it seems to work for now.

3rd 597 and all of them have had issues of one sort or another, if I had not wanted a semi 22 WMR so bad I would not have bought the 3rd. My 10/22's have all been just fine through thousands of rounds... Won't be rushing out to buy any more Remington products.

(... I feel as thought I ought to add...

Crazy Glue, sparingly applied in small quantities in the right places to snug up loose pins (ie: use a toothpick) can keep silly things like this from happening again.

As déclassé it might seem.

Glad it's worked out for you!

Anyone have any idea where I can find a schematic that shows what the assembly should look like? Always nice to confirm that I got everything back the way it should be.

Mine did the same thing, many times. I never did figure it out. That was mainly because I really didn't like that gun, so I never cared much to spend time trouble shooting it. I sold it and bought a 10/22 ... No regrets!

I know they are A LOT more $$ but that is by I bought a Magnum Research .22 mag. Worth every penny!!

Hope u sorted your issue out!

Another good choice is CZ512 22WMR. This reliable and accurate rifle can be had for $600-700. Unfortunately the trigger is heavy out of the box so it needs some polishing to get it down to 3-3.5 lbs.
