Remington 597 .22LR

Not shopping there anymore! Bought a CO2 Air Pistol from them that's all fine I'm of legal age. Then when I go to buy some pellets for it, they need my full ID address blah blah. Was told its store policy. Who keeps paper records of pellets?
 
I bought my 597 a bit more then a year ago. LOVE IT! Mine is the most basic one. Plastic stock and no frills. Bought it at LeBaron in Ottawa. It will cycle everything except Winchester ammo. Personnally I've never had good luck with Winchester ammo in most guns I own.

I've changed the hammer and extractor to Volquartsen parts. I had an issue with the extractor then i changed it. I have about 6 Remington 30 rds mags one split in half but the rest are ok. I have one 10rds mag no issues with that one. I cleaned it once when I changed the extractor and hammer but that was after about 3000 rds give or take.

I would recommend a 597 to anyone!
 
At the time I bought it there was no 10/22 available. I could of waited months and months but I'm not patient sometimes... Plus the 597 was cheaper.:D
 
I had a 597 one time and i had issues with it. Mine was the extractor wore a hole through the bottom of the bcg and started jamming and fte.needless to say warrenty was up before i noticed it happening.
 
I don't own one but I have read that the new guns also have new Metal mags and that has improved function of the gun allot over the first plastic mags ?

I'm still on the fence , if I should buy one now that it appears Rem has started get the bugs out of the gun or wait a while longer .

Does anyone have the Heavy barrel and how does it shoot ?

One of the biggest points about this rifle that I picked up on in the store, was it feels like a big rifle when you hold it. I was checking out Savage Model 64's, the 10/22's, Marlin's auto loader (i don't remember the model..) and then i held the 597. With the thick barrel and, what I felt was, longer stock it reminded me of shouldering my hunting rifle. I really liked this over the other rifles, which in my bear paw's felt like any other .22 out there.

Also, I picked up on a box of CCI Blazer ammo after running 2 box's of Federal Bulk, and a half box of Winchester 525 through it, and have I ever found my ammo! The federal's would group at about .75-1" at 25 yards, usually with a random high flyer here and there. The Winchesters were tighter, with fewer high flyer's, but these Blazers! I get the same grouping's at 50yd's with the Blazer Bulk as I did with the Winchester's at 25yd. This thing is a little gopher puncher! I'm honestly thinking about putting pillars in the stock, bedding the action and floating the barrel to see if I can't get those results at 100yd's...:sniper:

Found one today! Tried to buy it, but the store lost everything for it. IF they can find the box, paper work, and mag they are going to give me a call!
 
In case anyone is thinking of purchasing a 597, I figured I'd post some information I got from LeBaron's today. According to the man I spoke with, all versions of the 597 have been coming in with bolts over torqued to the point of cracking the receivers on 10 out of 26 rifles in their last shipment. He says they've held off on ordering more until Remington resolves the issue. He also said the rifles which weren't damaged are the usual Remington quality, with no problems reported. Their price on the HB with OD Green stock is $212. I still plan to purchase one.
 
Are you talking about the guide rail retaining screws being over-torqued? I went to check my 597HB (also purchased at LeBaron) and they were just beyond finger tight.
 
I couldn't, and still can't, remember for certain the name he gave them. Sorry. He went on about it a touch too long and my brain became over saturated. I got the impression its the ones I've read are supposed to have a slight gap between them.
