Remington 597 <---- best ammo?

Another test today with the following ammos (best 5 shot groups, measured with flyer):
CCI STINGER - terrible !!! 5" groups, couldn't find 5th shot
CCI QUIK-SHOK - terrible !!! all over the paper, 5" groups
CCI MINI-MAG - best group 13/16"
American Eagle 40gr Solid - 15/16"
American Eagle 38gr Hollow Point - 1 2/16"
With some practice I could tighten the groups but not bad for the first time. So far the winners are CCI MM and AE 40gr.

Rusty, even your best groups are way too big for 597 @50 yards. Any sporter (except 1022 :)) should be able to deliver 2" with almost any ammo. Check your scope, or rather just plain replace it with any other scope. Check barrel is attached tight and receiver is sitting in a stock tight, nothing loose. My 597 routinely shoot 1/2" to 3/4 " groups depending on ammo. Worst maybe just over 1" @ 50 yards.

Thank you. I'll check.
The VQ hammer has been sitting in the box since I bought the rifle. That may help too.

Glad to see the AE worked for you; it's cheaper than Minimag solids by a bit ;).

Hmmm...
Do you guys think that the muzzle brake would have a negative effect on the groups?
I haven't tried the rifle without it.

For a hunting round PMC zappers are very accurate for me, best all out accuracy is realized from CCI standard (1/2" @ 50), eley target rifle, CCI minimag (40gr). When assembling the rifle action to stock I like to torque down the rear screw then the front (make sure it does not contact the barrel - too long) so the barrel remains floated in the stock, but if you are using a yellow jacket style stock that probably isn't an issue.

These are from 20m indoors:
