I just picked up a new 597 and the mags won't take the full 10 rounds. What did you use to polish them and how did you open them.

Pop the bottom off with a thin screwdriver. The insides of the magazine can be polished with a Dremel felt wheel or automotive sandpaper. Also clean up the follower, remember to orient the spring correctly when assembling.

Don't bother with the Remington 25 rd plastic mags, they are worse than bad. I noticed Butler Creek makes some too but haven't heard anything about them but the only way they could be worse than the factory 25's would be to jam on every single round every single time instead of 75% of the time like the Remington versions.

The aftermarket mags are junk for the 597.
With the guide rail screws properly installed and factory 10 round magazines, the 597's are very reliable.
Almost any aftermarket mags I've tried were junk and caused problems. Even when I owned 10/22's before I discovered the 597 and sold them, I only ever ran the 10 round factory rotary mags.
Glad you got her working Sir. I just stick with the 10 round mags. The 597 is one of the best all around bang for buck semi auto's in Canada. Very accurate.
Mine is the most accurate rifle I own period. It can outshoot my tuned M14 and my 20" AR15 pencil barrel at 100 meters with junk blazer 40gr lead nose .22LR.
10-15 rounds in a 3-4" circle at 100 meters with Tech Sight irons! :rockOn:

it was a product I bought at Canadian Tire called "Nevr-Dull"

After rubbing the insides of the mags with it, they were smooth and slick.

I also trimmed away any excess plastic "sprue" from the follower and turned the spring around so that they held the front edge of the follower up a little higher.

I had one of these rifles. And the 25 rounders from Remington work good. I found that cleaning off any flash and polishing the follower up with fine sandpaper helped too. Your Mileage May Very...
