Hey guys and gals,

I'm new tot he shooting world and I just got the Remington 597 HB and was wondering what the best scope/red dot available in the 125-175 range is? I will be doing 99% target shooting. 25/50 yard shots but eventually want to build up to the 100+ yard shots at some point.

99% @ 25/50 yrds with a semi = 4x fixed power rimfire scope. Simmons 4x 22magnum scope costs about $40 with rings.
If you want a variable get one with AO or one made for rimfire. 3-9x power should do and you have some options in the $125-175 range....chk out Mueller APV AO.
If you want more accuracy out of your rifle get a bolt IMHO

Hey johNTO, thanks for the quick reply. Read and watched a bunch of the reviews on the Mueller. Definitely one to consider.
 
As JoNTO said, consider a good scope with AO, especially one made for rim fire. I just got the Nikon Prostaff Target EFR and love it. Even other shooters who have looked through it say it's the best they have ever seen. Check out all the good reviews on the Web too - Nikon really got this one right.
