I just purchased a new 597 in .22, after cleaning it I took it out to test fire however I found that the .22 bullet won't fit into the barrel, I checked and the barrel says .22 long rife but the riunds are too large I think it maybe a .17 HMR. Anyway I'm sending it back to the store for a return, I was womdering if anyone else had experienced this problem.

I would think a 17hmr would have a larger chamber than a 22lr, since its based off a 22WMR???

are you saying it wont chamber a round? or are you comparing the diameter of the hole at the muzzle with a .22 bullet?

a .17 bullet is noticeably smaller than .22 cal.

did you buy .22lr cartridges... did you maybe pick up some .22 winchester magnum rimfire by accident??

597 Problem

The round which is a .22 wildcat Long Rifle which fits perfectly in my winchester cooey 600 is too large for the barrel of the 597. The round won't even attempt to go in since I tried it with the bolt open to make sure its wasn't something else. I also have Marlin .22 Mag in which the rounds are longer. The round won't fit.

597 Problem

I can't take a photo now because I have it packaged and ready to ship back to the store it was purchased at. This is the first time I had this happen, I'm kind of nervous with the new one that I'm suppose to get when this one is exchanged. The round won't even fit at all I'm thinking the same thing barrel stamped/machined for a different cal .17 maybe not sure since I haven't had any experience with that caliber weird.

I've seen some weird stuff come out of Remington but not for a long time. Hope your next one works out for you.

once bought a Remington 700 Mountain chambered for the 243 thru mail order and when I received it, the barrel had 2 sets of riflings, 1 counter clockwise and 1 clockwise.....weirdest thing I had ever seen
