Remington 597 retailer

In glancing around I haven't noticed anyone retailing Remington 597s; one often hears of them being inexpensive but I haven't yet found a Canadian price anywhere remotely close to the mythical 100 bucks and change. Is it just a matter of regional dealers getting them from the manufacturer?

EDIT: I sure hope this isn't going to be one of these "Enjoy the US-Canadian price difference" experiences.

As in, bad service?

Basically, looking for prices mostly yielded me US comments - frequently along the lines of "Picked this up for 98 bucks down at the *department store*" The cheapest I found from a Canadian retailer was 159 at Russell Sports and S.I.R. mail order and 179 and up more at Wholesale Sports.

After taxes I'm thinking 100% real price difference? I'm sure the importation process is a #####, but jeez.
 
well have fun with importing a 597 from the states. i don't know anything about it. doesn't seem worth it for a sub 200$ gun.

Typically, in the supply chain you have the maker, distributor, wholesaler, retailer and the consumer. With probably a customs suffrage agent somewhere in the mix for non-Canadian goods. Each one of these elements is adding a markup to the cost to cover expenses and profit.

And then there is also the landed cost issue.....goods already in the supply chain when the dollar was low aren't going to be sold for a loss to-day. I don't think there's much manufacturer sponsored price-protections in the firearms world. Too small a market for a non-commodity item.
 
I'm in Nova Scotia; I was originally looking at a Stevens 200 but haven't shot in many years and the folks at the Precision forum suggested a .22, which made a lot of sense.

On the other hand a ~100 dollar "just cuz" markup - the supply chain can kiss my ass - is a lot easier to contemplate on a firearm that sells for 336 US down south as opposed to 100 dollars.
 
Might be an Alberta thing; I think both of the 159-dollar mail order places are based there too; my local Canadian Tire just seems to have one Rem airgun and a bunch of accessories.

EDIT: Same results using an AB postal code for the CT website - I'll check in the actual store I guess.

I bought a 597 a few years ago and have a problem with it. The empty casings do not clear the reciever and get cought in the action when it closes. I thought mayby it needed to be worked in or needed high quality ammo, but that has not worked. I'm going to have it looked at.
IN a 10 round mag it will jam about 7 times on average.
 
If you're still looking for one, get the one with the black stock ....
just it looks better than the light grey one .... I think certain dealer carry
just a different color of stock.
Like LeBaron only carry the grey one, if I'm not mistaken ....

I can't see worth the trouble buying one of these in the US ....
