remington 597 scope mount

does the base model Remington 597 come with a scope mount? or do you need to buy it later?

Comes with standard rimfire grooves/dovetails.

There are Weaver bases available. I ended up buying a base because it was cheaper than buying more rings (I had an abundance of weaver rings), but I don't think it's necessary.

my 597 is about 10-15 years old and the rings that came with the cheap bushnell scope that they through in with the deal worked. I change to see through mounts later because I wanted to use the iron sites as well.

lebaron has the remington base for under $17 i believe..I discovered this after ordering from brownells and taking a bath on shipping.

My base was under $15 through the local store. Cheaper than rimfire rings!

As stated above, the receiver is grooved for rimfire rings. If you have a set of those, you're fine.

If you need to buy rings, I think that I have a base for a 597 kicking around in one of my spare parts/junk drawers, which will allow you to choose from a big selection of Weaver-type rings. It's yours gratis if you want it. You'd need to scrounge some screws, but any gunshop has them. PM me.
