Hey Gunners,

So I have been eyeballing a .22 and recently noticed the Remington 597 Synthetic .22LR. I have read some threads on here stating its a fairly solid gun outa the box and that unlike the Ruger 10/22 it does not need a bunch of upgrades to be fairly accurate. I am assuming there are different versions of this rifle so does anyone have direct experience with the 597 Synthetic (retails for about $175 from my understanding). What kind of accuracy are you guys getting with a outa the box 597 at 50 yards?

Cheers

Take a peak and you'll see theres been a ton of debate on this recently. Seems theres a many that work with ammo x other with ammo y and a few that just wont group well out of the box. I got mine a couple weeks ago and found it decent, but just haven't had the chance to try different ammo brands to compare yet.

you might need to purchase VQ extract edge

I'm grouping at less than an inch at 30 yards with mine, but I tried the 30 shot clip and it is failing to feed pretty regular and I think I'm going to take it back. It seems like only clips with steel lips work really good on it as the 10 shot one that came with it feeds flawlessly.
I only paid $140 for mine plus $42 for a scope and I'm totally satisfied with it other than the trigger is a bit heavy, but I don't mind. Excellent .22 go ahead. Haven't had it more than 30 yards yet though.
Best ammo to use: Federal hollow point bulk pack is by far the best in my rifle.

I bought the scope combo one from s.i.r. And it groups terrible i've tried all differen't ammo a different scope.It just won't group,at least my 10/22 roups well;

nick if the rails that the bolt slides on are in too tight you'll get aim problems (I'm told, never seen it myself). My manual says they are only supposed to be torqued in about 1 ft lb. Might want to check that to see if that's what the problem is. Or take it back to the store and ask them to look into it. Mine is dead on for accuracy.

Oh, here's a first guys. Had my first FTE with the Federal bulk pack ammo. That's ONE failure after about 400 rounds and no cleaning after the initial one I did when I bought the rifle. It still is firing perfectly accurate, and there are lots of dead gophers out there that would tell you it shoots really well... if they were still alive... and if gophers could talk of course.

Like mine just fine. Did the Volq hammer & extractor before I fired it. Trigger pull came down close to half, at a guess. Just came back from gopher expedition, very solid out to 50 yds no wierd misses or fliers I can recall. When very dirty, I did have a couple of double taps go off which really caught me by surprise. Cleaned the mag lips, problem be gone. Maybe 3 - 4 FTF in about 400 rds with bulk Federal. Not enough to bother me at all.

Not a spectacular grouper at the range, maybe 1.5-2" @ 50. But more than good enough for gopher work as noted above. Made some longer shots in the 80-100yd range, but not as consistently. I pull out my bolt Savage if that's going to be the game.
