Hi all
I was thinking of picking up a Rem 597 LS target model .
Before you say it I have 2 1022' 1 stock & 1 custom target . Just looking for any feed back on the Remington , I've herd good & bad ,
Your Thoughts?????

I have a 597 LS HB and I find it quite accurate. It seems to outshoot the 10/22's I see at the range. Federals seem very accurate. Winchester Xpert 22 seem ok as well. I'd like to try some Dynapoints soon. I have tried just about every type of ammo Remington puts out, but the Federal Game-Shoks seem more accurate.

I love 'em. Used to have a 10/22 and never looked back. I have a LSS and a Yellow Jacket (of which I have yet to shoot). The 597 is a much nicer rifle than a stock 10/22, made more like a grown-up size and I found it was more accurate out of the box. The bolt hold open is also a nice feature. If stock is not good enough, Volquartsen makes a target hammer, extractor and scope rail. Eagle makes a nice 32 round mag... My LSS likes Mini-Mags, Remington Subsonics and Federal Bulk packs.

I just got my 597 with HB three days ago ( or was it two), and today shot it for the first time. I absolutely love it. It is just as accurate as my Savage with HB and accutrigger, cycle well even subsonics and places 5-shot groups withing nickel size at 50 meters ( not yards). A bit picky on ammo, not very accurate with high powered rounds but anything in stardard velocity is very accurate. Laminate stock is plain beautiful, weaver rail coumes pre-installed, what else is there... Trigger a bit heavy but there are cheap aftermarket hammers for that kind of trouble. Do not get me wrong, trigger is actually light and crisp but heavier than what I would want on target rifle. Thats my first day impressions.

I wish it was easier to take down, but I think that is why rifle is so accurate :). Another good thing - heavy barrel is actually fairly light as compared to Rueger or Savage or anything else. I thing Remington got it right in sweet spot were its accurate but not overly heavy.

Where did you buy this beauty, and for how much? :)

can't remember the name of the store, I was driving by and spotted gun&tackle or whatever the name is and naturally I pulled over. Its on 104th Avenue in Surrey next to shopping mall. The moment I saw that rifle on the rack I knew I am in trouble. Quick bargaining, light flirt with shopkeeping girl - 535$+tax I couldn't resist even thought I already had like three birthdays this month. They told me there are couple more left so if you want one they may still have it, although I am sure if you shop carefully you can get better deal.

Reminton

That store would be hunters sporting goods on 104 in surrey .
Living in BC I buy most of my guns out of province to save the tax .
I paid $250.00 for mine & no they don't have any more . mine has the standard Remington laminat stock whith heavy barrel . already have a Boyds custom stock comming from US for $89.00

597

I got mine from shooters choice . It was preowned but as new . Wholesale has the same model for $329.00 laminate stock target . the yellow jacket is $499.00 the only differance between the two is the stock & the stock is availible from $89.00 to $130.00

Do the target models shoot more accurately than the LSS models?
The stainless steel would be good choice in the wet weather.

I am guessing that the barrel heats up and the groups open up more than on the target model? Although I've heard that .22s don't heat the barrel up much?

Rem 597 blowed up

Well got my 597 22lr on fri & went to the range today to pit it against my 1022 . after sighting in the red dot sight I found the 597 shot very good groups .But unfortunetly the wind was very strong so I could not go for any long range stuff . It was also the first chance to shoot my 1022 since I installed boyds blaster stock & GM 18" target barrel . It also shot good groups .
A freind showed up with his 597 17HMR . He fired off a couple clips & then a round went off I asume before the bolt was closed & blew the mag apart & cracked the stock . Any one have a simmiler prodlem with a 597 17 HMR ?
And who in canada will do Remington warranty ? The local dealer is a warenty depo but wont touch the 597 .

I like my 597 HB.I put a 3-9 Bushnell on it and it shoots very reliably with factory 10 rounds or the 30 round mags.also bought a A22 to compare and they both shoot well.A22 has a nicer trigger and is slightly more accurate for less money. Not sure which one I prefer.
