Remington 597 trouble & VQ

I went ahead and installed the VQ hammer and extractor on my 597 Magnum before even firing a shot through it 'stock' (I have the original Remington parts tucked away in a bag somewhere 'brand new/never been used').

Although I can't say how the rifle now compares to the way it was prior to wearing the VQ parts (since it was never fired without them), the trigger pull is certainly light and crisp. As far as the VQ extractor is concerned, I've probably fired a thousand or more rounds (CCI MaxiMag) through the rifle and have yet to experience a single FTE (or FTF, for that matter) ...none.

Great rifle that regularly shoots single-hole groups at 25 yards and sub-inch groups from 50 yards (I haven't spent much time with it at 100 yards yet ...but it is a magnum, so I'm sure that I'll be giving it a try).

I would recommend anybody their 597 with VQ, now that my 597 is gone
thru over a couple thousand rounds the gun shoot very sweet on a bench
at 50 yards can group 10 shots in less than 1" and also at 20 yards standing
off hand position could do an inch or less.

I'm looking at getting a 597 when I get a PAL; if one is willing to pay for, eg, Federal ammo, how necessary it is? It seems kind of unfortunate if the 597 'requires' a modification out of the box.

It doesn't NEED a modification...mine still has the standard hammer... Out of the box trigger pull is OK considering the price of the rifle, but it would be nice if it was a little lighter. Just be glad that if you don't like the stock trigger there's something you can do about it ;)

Like said before, modification not really needed. Most people modify it "because they can" and its dirt cheap. And who wouldn't want to have a bit extra accuracy when rifle just screams for target competitions? I still have stock everything by the way. I have no competition with it, everybody starts that old "you-have-a-scope-and-I-shoot-with-peeps" song. Sure.
