remington 597 vtr, any good?

thats cause people haven't adjusted the guide rails properly :( once it's done mine is more reliable than my buddies 10/22 and looks way cooler

I agree. After doing that and putting in a volquartsen extractor it works much better. Against my better judgement I bought a 30 round Remington mag and I can actually get through the whole mag now with few, if any, jams. (They usually happen within the first five rounds.) After that they work fine. I just wonder why you have to adjust guide rods and replace extractors just to get it to function especially on a new gun.
I agree it is very accurate.
I also have to say that for functionality, fit and finish, my Ruger SR22 is a better gun. The stock and ff tube are much easier to remove and the take down on the SR22 is much easier. Right out of the box I fired 25 rounds as fast as I could pull the trigger w/o a glitch. It is also very accurate.
I don't plan on getting rid of the 597 VTR but having the opportunity to shoot both: The SR22 is a better albeit more expensive gun. It is also more reliable out of the box. The 597 with some work, is also very accurate. Both guns are a lot of fun. You won't go wrong with the VTR as long as you are willing to work on it out of the box.
