The 597 VTR isn't hard to strip down, its just time consuming. Next time I'll run all of those screws with air and just break loose and tighten them by hand.

My particular rifle is reliable, very accurate and a ball to shoot with either a Trijicon clone or Tasco Red Dot.
If you want to mod your rifle then buy a 10/22. If you just want to shoot then get a 597 VTR and put the $140 +/- you save into ammo.
