Remington 597 ?

Bought a 597 a few years back, had heard it wasn't great but at $200 from SFRC it was a good deal. Mine has been flawless, have both 10 and 25 round mags for it and a cheap weaver scope on top. Just bought the new ruger 10/22 contest winner rifle for double the price of the 597. Both are great guns, I still think ill be shooting the 597 more.

I had a 597 and it was single handily the biggest pos firearm I have ever owned. Sold it and got a Savage 64 which was superior in every aspect.

Same experience here. Except I bought a 10/22 to replace the 597, and haven't looked back. The only advantage the 597 had over the Ruger, is that it was more accurate (but wouldn't feed ammo reliable, so who cares).

10/22 > 597 (IMO)
