Looking for some advice for a Remington 600 in 6mm. I have been restoring the rifle, refinished stock, cerakoted metal, new aluminum bottom metal and Timney trigger. What I still need is a front sight vane, the dovetail piece, which slides into the front sight base (which I have). Also I would like to replace the original butt plate with a Limbsaver. So my question, can a sight vane from another model be used, I suspect they are common amongst other models. Similar with the butt plate, Limbsaver has models for 700 and 7 CDL, would these fit or be close? It is surprising how close the Tikka T3 Limbsaver is in shape and fit, but not quite. Your suggestion would be appreciated. Oh PS, dont want a slip on Limbsaver.

I put a grind to fit on my Remington 660 and it came out very nice.

speaking of the 600, i remember reading about a guy who converted one to 358 winchester. boy that would be a nice combination.

Go with a grind to fit pad. You may need to touch up the stock finish as a pad is usually installed prior to sanding. As for a front sight, place a WTB ad for one. I believe the 660s used the same sights and likely other Remingtons.

I used to have one in .358W, it had been re-chambered from .35 Remington. I have a Rem 722 that has been re-barrelled to .358W, so I went a little bigger with the 600. It is now a .416x2". 400gr bullet at 1800fps, quite the thumper. Basically a necked-down .458 American.

I swapped both of my 600 trigger guards out to alloy. My triple deuce and my re-barreled 6.5 Creedmoor. Numrich used to carry them.

That rings a bell. My LGS back then ordered them in for me. I didn't bother noting who the US maker was but the seller was Numrich. Nice bits they were & are. The sure cure for the puckered plastic look on the factory units. ;)

Here are a couple images of my almost completed Remington 600 Mohawk. I did find out that if you use the Limbsaver 10806/10102 it is a very close fit to the original stock.

Looks Great. Your rear sight is on backwards. For the front sight I measure 0.4285 height for factory steel sight. I see epps has Williams fibre optic fire sight in heights of .406 and .450..The medium width one is probably best.

I bought my wife a Mohawk for her first anniversary back in 78'. She didn't use it much ( the first buck she tried to shoot with it looked back at her with those big shiny eyes and she couldn't shoot) so sold it to buy a new sewing machine ...I was pissed at the time but she still uses that same machine at least once a week. I seem to remember hers having a vent rib barrel tho.

I had a 660 in .222. It was a cool gun and was pretty accurate.

Did you bleach the stock? Its really light for walnut. Also, did you remove the vent rib, or was it always missing?

I ended up using a .460 front sight on the m7 I set up with sights, but the barrel is probably skinnier. Williams fiber optic is very good for older eyes like mine
