Hi all, I'm wondering what grain and type of bullet people are using for best results with their 308 AAC-SD? Any load data you can give would be great!

Some of my best loads for that rifle was Hornady 178gr HPBT behind 40.5gr Varget and shot 0.488" MOA. Sierra 168gr HPBT Matchking behind 41.5gr H4895 was pretty good too. I found my rifle preferred the lighter loads. Once I start getting into the heavier loads, the groupings started opening up.

no two guns are the same even in the same brand with sequential serial numbers. Berger 185 and Sierra 175 grain match bullets are pretty darned load and seating depth tolerant bullets. Find some Varget and do some load development with those. Ignore COAL measurements that mean absolutely nothing and get yourself a comparator.

I have the 16.5" version. Right now I am loading up some Hornady HPBT 168 grain bullets with 43.0 grains of IMR 4895 with great results!

This was shot at 230yds

Thanks for the replies guys. I have 168g nosler customs, 178g amax, and a bunch of 180 nosler ballistic tip to try out. I'm also wondering if anyone has used some 208 amax with theirs as well? For now I think I might give the 178 amax a go, just got to pick up some varget from somewhere. I hear some guys using RL15 as well, think I have a pound of that I could try out in the mean time.

"...best bullet?..." For what? Any bullet used in regular .308 loads will do nicely. The rifle is just a 20" 700 with a useless threaded muzzle. 165 grain hunting bullets or 168 or 175 grain match bullets with Varget or IMR4064.

If you can't find Varget, it's not the end of the world. Hodgdon Benchmark, H4895, IMR4895 are other extreme powders that do well in 308.
