Is there anywhere in Canada that stocks Remington 700 action screws? I know they're #6 48 TPI, but finding the right thing at a fastener store has been a pain, so I'd be happy to pay someone to ship them if I can.

If there's no one this side of the boarder, I'm assuming Brownell's would ship something like that. I've never ordered from them before.

Thanks in advance.

My mistake gentlemen. I’m looking for action screws, not the base screws. That’s what I get for believing what I read on the internet without double checking ha!

I just installed a Remington hinged floor-plate assembly in my Remington 78. The 78 has a heavy steel bushing set into the stock with the countersink for the front screw. Since the floor-plate frame seats at the same depth as the bushing, but sits higher, the existing screw was too short; I needed one. I bought a 1/4 - 28 Grade 8 hex head bolt at TSC, chucked it up in my drill-press and rounded the hex to size with a file; used the same file to shape the bottom champfer for the countersink, the height and the crown of the head. I then put it in the vise, and using a 1" mini-zip disk in a pencil grinder, cut a nice, square slot in the head. I checked it's fit and discovered it was a bit long, and was interfering with the bolt closing; after a couple of careful trimming, everything fit perfect. I removed the screw, hit it with some bluing and then cleaned and oiled it, and it looks like it came from the factory!

The initial purchase of the bolt came to 96 cents with tax.

Check with Gary or Western gun parts in Canada or Brownells if you want to order them. Get the extra long screws and cut them to length , Remington over the years used as many as 5 different length screws , over the years. That is why sometime when putting an older Remington into an aftermarket stock or a newer synthetic factory stock the action screws are to short , or only engage a couple threads.
