The Beretta family of firearms has much better quality overall than the Remingtons... that is a no brainer for people that sell them

you shoulda seen the T3 270wsm that came back into the shop, with a barrel that you could unscrew with your hand! :D :dancingbanana:

Remington's are very popular for a reason.
Yeppers, for the same reasons Ford Pintos were very popular in 1972
They are realistaically the Chevy Chevette of the gun world, and just the bee's knees till you compare them to a well made rifle.

Yea whatever! Why don't you give up the shrooms?

I don't see the Chevettes still being made after 40 some odd years. 700s have been out there for going on 50yrs.

A better comparision would be to the Ford F150. Not perfect, but not a bad truck overall, and in some cases a pretty darn good truck, and usually worth the money to get one. Don't tell me you drive a European truck with a European rifle in the back window.

there is a lot of reference to "older" 700's being better than the newer ones. I just don't see it. I have had 700's that date to '63 and thru the 70's and 80's and into the 90's and some that are only a few months old. I took the barrels out of two stainless SPS's in the last couple weeks, one just today. These actions are as good as anything I've owned from the earlier days of the 700. The bolt feel in the stainless SPS's is very smooth. I have about 14 700's from the late 60's to present most of which I've rebarreled and they are all fine rifles. Haven't had a problem with one yet.

I rebarreled a stainless SPS last week and polished and bead blasted it...it's as nice as any stainless BDL now and just as "smooth"....whether that will help in the field remains to be seen...

and I don't believe any "dies" are used in the manufacturing of a 700...they aren't forged or cast...they are machined from bar stock.

Yeah I have seen one with the bolt stop in the wrong position and a couple of other screw ups. But not nearly as many as some other nameless manufacturer....;)

OK, the Volkswagen beetle of firearms...

Still being made after 40 odd years, and still selling...
But a POS none the less :)

Well, this thread has lost any value other than there is absolutley no consensus on anything....

Except that guns are good.

That is true, it is a funny thread. But I just can't help slinging mud at the Remmy's. I like guns that don't need tinkering to shoot straight ie: Savage, Tikka, CZ. and there's money left over for decent optics.

what was wrong with the 788:confused: throw a coat of stain on the stock and theres nothing wrong with it.

Hey, "a man convinced against his will is of the same oppinion still" but there was plenty wrong with 788's----I had one for years, it shot straight but it were a budget rifle no doubt.
