I can't believe I'm asking this, especially since I don't really like M700s or 308 Win very much but I was wondering if anyone has tried the new ATR.
I'm intrigued by the semi-triangular, factory-braked bbl and the green stock.
Has anyone actually had a crack at one?
Is it all hype and fancy make up or do these really shoot?
Looking at the price they're considerably cheaper than some of the other models.

I had a look at one in a shop. The bolt was not smooth at all and the stock looked toyish up close and the barrel was that rough matte finish. But the dude at the shop said another guy that worked there has one and says they perform pretty good.

I asked a guns shop owner that I know personally the same question. He said that he had sold three of them and none would shoot. I trust him enough that I wouldn't buy one.

I was seriously considering one of these in .204, but in the end opted for the SPS700 Varmint, 6" longer true heavy barrel, and considerably cheaper for more gun in my opinion. The VTR only has the cool factor but when you compare them side by side the SPS wins.

they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't doubt they have the capability to shoot very well, like any Rem 700. It's a marketing thing, build new different guns to attract guys to lay down some cash.
