remington 700 barrel length question

Would it be a fair assessment to assume a 300win mag and the 300wsm velocitys would be equal in the shorter 24" barrel? I really enjoy my 300 win mags but was thinking of picking up the wsm for the fact that it was built for the intended purpose of being shot out of 24" barrel unlike the win mag that was designed around the 26" pipe. I know im most likely splitting hairs but im building a 7lb long range hunting rig. I have everything for 300win mag but dont want the 26" barrel. So would I be better off going the short action route and buying another rifle?
