Remington 700 barrel swap

Is the action on a remington 700 that is currently cambered in a 308 win able to be changed to a 22-250

yes, bring both the rifle and new barrel to Corlanes and they'll fix it up right for you, headspace has to be checked and can be adjusted with a thicker or thinner recoil lug as a simple fix, if it is a major difference in headspace they may have to adjust the shoulder on the barrel

Was planning on buying a barrel and having them do it

The fellows in Corlane's do nice work. If you want a bit of advice, call them first and get a price on the package. Buy the barrel from them and get them to install it.

About the only action easier to swap a barrel out and install a new one is the Savage with it's adjustable locking nut. Funny, I saw a Remington 700 a few weeks ago with the same locking nut. I wish I could have had a closer look at it. Not sure if the recoil lug was still in place or not. Likely it was but it wasn't readily visible without getting closer.

You may have to change the magazine box and follower and spring for more reliable feeding as well. I am just changing a 22-250 the other way... so I have the parts here if you need to buy them.

Get your new 22-250 chambered with a short throat for longer barrel life... they use barrels a bit faster than some other cartridges.
