I just picked up a Remington 700 BDL varmint in 222 with the 24" heavy barrel. The guy selling it was calling it a CDL and really didn't know what it was besides being a 222 and he wasn't using it cause it was heavy(roughly 9 lbs without the scope). Does anyone have one and reload for it? . I know every rifle is different but just I'm looking for a starting point for bullet weight. Thanks

I had one in 223...fully adjustable trigger and could set it down to breathing on the trigger would make it go boom....go to hodgon.com for your info...nice rifles...

thanks guys like I said looking for a starting point.I have a cache of 52 for my Hornet so I can delve into them. From what I've read these are amazing shooters, a diamond in the rough Will let you know. Thank you

My go to powder for my .222 is also BLC2 or Win748. Being ball powders, they meter nice, and they always gave good accuracy with a variety of 50 - 55 gr bullets. I always had the best accuracy with 50 gr bullets, but my rifle isn't a M700.

RL7, IMR or H4198, Norma 200 or 201, Vihtavuori N133 or 135 or 140, W748, BLC2, Benchmark, H322, TAC, IMR3031 and 4895 [and several other, I'm sure]
are all suitable for a 222 Remington.
You indeed have a fine rifle there. It should shoot well with almost any bullet from 40-55 grains.
I have that rifle's twin in 6mm Remington.
Regards, Eagleye.

My favorite varmint /22 CF . If you dont' like it send me a pm. The gents above gave you good advice. The best for me was blc2 and 52gr. bullets but I havent' tried everything. Ive got a spare set of rcbs dies if you're looking for em'.

Thanks guys, I bought some factory with my CT money to give me some brass to play with but then I might get lucky and it might digest factory loads. Who am I kidding I'll reload anyway just for the hell of it .

Like Eagle eye, I have/had the twin in 6mmRem. It was
Called the "Varmint Special" if I recall correctly.

I since built and installed a 26" HEAVY bull barrel in 6mm Ackley on the action.
It shoots the 88gr BegerVLD flat based bullet like crazy!
This Combo gave me my first and second groups sub .1" ever! Both were done during the same load testing stage, and with different powders.

I have shot this Combo out to 1300 yards so far. Love that platform. As a kid I could hardly wait untill I could buy one! (1980's).
